Hoppers up 4-0 early, and saw Hudson Valley cut the lead to 4-3, after 4 1/2 innings…Hoppers go up 5-3, at the end of the fifth…Renegades up 6-5 end of six, and then HV goes up 8-5, at end of seven innings…The Grasshoppers strike for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, to cut the lead to 8-7, but Hudson Valley hangs on to win, 8-7…
The Hoppers were 2-10, with runners on scoring position, and left nine runners stranded on base…Ahead 5-3, the Hoppers left the bases loaded in the fifth inning….Up early, and let another one get away…Got to put the opposing teams away, and got to push the runners/the offense to plate, and plate the runners that reach base, and end up in scoring position…

Steak n Shake Defensive Player of the Game:Jack Herman with two outstanding catches in left field…On the first grab, he went up and pulled fly a ball back in, and then hit the dirt…The first fly ball that Herman caught was off of the bat of Renegades’ catcher, Carlos Narvaez…Herman robbed him of a home run…Jack went up against the First Capital sign there in left field, and he hit the base of warning track, and came back up, with his uniform covered in dirt…
The second catch came on a deep fly ball from Hudson Valley’s Everson Pereira…On this haul Jack Herman hit up against the Sunbrella sign in left field with his body, but he held on to the ball, and then medical personnel from the Hoppers’ staff ran out to where Jack Herman was laying, there on the warning track in left field and he couldn’t get up…
Jack Herman with two outstanding/superb catches in left field, but he ends up leaving the game, and First National Bank on a stretcher…We do not know his current status, all we know is that he took a hard shot to that fence/wall in left field, and was transported to the local hospital, and presume that would have been Moses Cone Hospital, which is just minutes away from First National Bank Field…Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jack Herman, a Greensboro Grasshopper for life..He has been here in Greensboro now for three seasons…Came here for the first time back in 2019, then was here for part of 2021, and was now back with the Hoppers for 2022…The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic…
Jack Herman on the way to hospital on Wednesday night, and our thoughts also go out to his family, up in Voorhees, New Jersey…We need Jack, back with the Greensboro Grasshoppers…And at the beginning of the night Jack Herman was not even supposed to be in left field to start the ballgame, he was slated to start out in right field, and then just before the contest got under way, he and Sammy Siani switched spots, with Sammy going to right field, and Jack Herman going to left…I still have it listed that way, on my pregame lineup sheet…
Again, We need Jack back, with the Greensboro Grasshoppers…
