Omega Sports Report:The Meis Man(Mice Man) becomes the Mighty Meis(Mighty Mice) and tames the Tourists, as Hoppers take Asheville, 9-2, on Wednesday afternoon at FNB Field

Final from Wednesday afternoon at First National Bank Field:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 9, Asheville Tourists 2
WP:Justin Meis(1-1)
LP:Diosmerky Taveras(0-2)
Hoppers(27-37)/Tourists(25-39)
Hoppers’ line: 9-10-1
Tourists’ line:2- 5-1

The story of this game was the transformation of Justin Meis(pronounced Mice) into the Mighty Meis(Mighty Mice)…You might be thinking, we know he got the win today, but why all of the hoopla about the Meis Man/Justin Meis??? Well, when you look at his two previous starts, vs. the WS Dash, and vs. the Hudson Valley Renegades, Meis lasted 2/3’s of an inning against Hudson Valley, last Friday night, and he gave up 5 runs on 4 hits, including two home runs…That was a three-run homer, and a two-run home run vs. the HV Renegades…In other words, Justin Meis pretty much got rocked by Hudson Valley, just four days ago…

Back on June 12, at Winston-Salem, The Meis Man did not last an inning, as he allowed three runs, on four hits, and did not record an single out…He got the start and was gone, just like that…He pretty much got shelled vs. the WS Dash…

But, we fast forward to today/June 22, and Justin Meis gets his third start of the season, in his third game of the year, with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and he proceeds to go six innings, giving up 0/ZERO runs, on just three hits, while walking two batters, and he came up with Eight(8) big strikeouts…That is one of the biggest improvements, that I have seen in my entire baseball life…One of the all-time great transformations…From a small Meis, to Mighty Meis…

This kid really came on today/Wednesday, and for many followers of the team/the Greensboro Grasshoppers we could not believe what we were witnessing/seeing…The Meis Man got the job done, and then some…

For his efforts on Wednesday, he is the Greensboro Grasshoppers Steak n Shake Player of the Game…He wins it on the overall side of things, and especially on the defensive end of the ballgame…Offensive Steak n Shake Players of the Game would go to Hudson Head, who had a three-run home run, and to Endy Rodriguez, who came up with two key Doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI…Let’s add in Dariel Lopez, to our list of Steak n Shake offensive players of the game, from Wednesday…Dariel Lopez 2-4/HR/2 Runs/2 RBI……….

The Greensboro Grasshoppers broke on top early in this contest, and they took a 1-0 lead, in the bottom of the first inning, with Eli Wilson scoring on an RBI single from Sammy Siani…The Hoppers went ahead 5-0, with four big runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and that work was highlighted by Hudson Head’s three-run HR…Endy Rodriguez got the offensive rolling in the fifth, when he doubled and then came in to score on a single from Dariel Lopez…The came the big blow to right field by Head, bringing Fabricio Macias, Lopez, and Head all to the plate, to score three big insurance runs…

The Grasshoppers offense added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo HR to right field from Dariel Lopez…It was home run #9 of the season for Lopez…Then to close out the Grasshoppers’ scoring, they posted three more runs in eighth inning, as Rodriguez came up with another key RBI Double, and Jacob Gonzalez extended his hitting streak, with his first hit of the afternoon, a two-run single, to left field…A solid liner by Gonzalez completes the Hoppers scoring for the day…

There is no doubt that Justin Meis was the top pitcher to take the mound on Wednesday afternoon, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers also got steady relief help from steady Eddy Yean, and Cameron Junker…But again this was the day of transformation, the day of reclamation, the day that the Meis Man, the Mighty Meis/Justin Meis found his true inner self, and he was feeling fine on the hill, on this Wednesday afternoon, at First National Bank Field/FNB Field…

This was a day, where also realized that the Greensboro Grasshoppers are going to be a very unpredictable team to watch this season…One day you might get the world-beaters, and the next day you might be watching the team from the Green Lagoon…You just don’t know what we are going to get, but it should be fun to show up each day, and see what they(the Greensboro Grasshoppers, led by skipper Callix Crabbe) have for us next…

To me, the Player of the Month for June might just be Sammy Siani…He has really come on with his on-base numbers rising throughout the past 30 days…He has become very consistent, and does have those 17 stolen bases for the season, for a reason…The kid can fly…Great hitting this month also from the bat of Jacob Gonzalez…He has been the top hitter for the club, since he joined them in Hickory, late last month…Every day it seems like he gets another hit, and lately that one hit has been coming on his last at-bat of the ballgame…He is not hitting with the power he was showing when he first joined the team/squad, but his still producing runs/RBI…These kids like Siani and Gonzalez, have been developing right before our very eyes…

Nice to be led my Meis, and here are some final numbers from the Wednesday day game…

Attendance:2,955
Time of Game-2:44

Same two teams will do it again, on Thursday night, at FNB Field/First National Bank Field….Greensboro Grasshoppers vs. Asheville Tourists, with the first pitch coming in at 6:30pm…..

Quick Hopper hitting rundown from the Wednesday game, since we have been doing this every game…Sammy Siani 2-4/BB/RBI…Yoyner Fajardo 0-2/2 BB/Run…Endy Rodriguez 2-5/2 Doubles/2 Runs/RBI…Jacob Gonzalez 1-4/2 RBI…Fabricio Macias 1-4/BB/Run…Dariel Lopez 2-4/HR/2 Runs/2 RBI…Hudson Head 1-4/HR/3 RBI…Eli Wilson 1-4/Run…Claudio Finol 0-3/Run…Everybody getting involved with the offense on Wednesday…I just counted nine players names, on the offensive breakdown…
