Typically, it’s deep into a heated baseball game if a coach ends up getting ejected.

This was not the case on Wednesday when Toronto Blue Jays hitting coach Guillermo Martinez got tossed by umpires before the game had even started.

According to those in attendance, Martinez went onto the field to exchange lineup cards with the ump crew when a heated discussion broke out. By the time Blue Jays skipper Charlie Montoyo went onto the field to see what the commotion was, Martinez had already been ejected.

#Bluejays manager Charlie Montoyo having a conversation with one of the worst umpiring crews in recent memory. Not the first Jays coach to pay the crew a visit today.

While it wasn’t immediately made public what was said between Martinez and the crew, it is being widely speculated to have to do with the poor job the umpires did calling the previous night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. In that game, umpire Doug Eddings missed a whopping 29 ball-strike calls and the Blue Jays ended up losing 7-6.

*NEW SEASON HIGH*

Umpire Doug Eddings missed a season high 29 calls in the #BlueJays #WhiteSox game for a correct call rate of 86.2%. This included 6 blown strikeouts.
