Hoppers’ Steak n Shake Players of the Game go to Dariel Lopez and Hudson Head on offense and to Cameron Junker and Jared Jones, from the pitching staff…Lopez and Head both homered in the game, and Lopez goes 2-4/HR/BB/2 Runs/RBI…Head went 2-3/Double/HR/BB/3 RBI…Other Hopper hitters had solid nights with Endy Rodriguez and Jacob Gonzalez both going 2-4, and they both drew a BB, plus Gonzalez raised his batting average up to .320, and Rodriguez is now batting .294…Jackson Glenn did it again on Friday, going 2-3/Double/BB/2 Runs…Hopper newcomer Angel Basabe’s first hit as a Hopper was a solo HR to right field, and Basabe was 1-4/HR/RBI in his first game, as a Greensboro Grasshopper…Abrahan Gutierrez went 0-4, but he drew a bases-loaded walk and with that BB, he drove in a run, and that was RBI #40 on the season for Gutierrez…RBI #40, and HR #16 for Lopez in the ballgame, and Head had the three RBI, and that takes him to 31 RBI in 2022…
The Greensboro Grasshoppers’ starting pitcher Jared Jones worked five innings, and he gave up one run, on three hits, with three walks, and four strikeouts…Jones also gave up a home run to the Dash’ Harvin Mendoza, and it was a solo homer for Harvin, in the fourth inning…Cameron Junker faced only one batter and he got Alsander Womack to ground out to Hoppers’ second baseman Dariel Lopez, to end the game…One batter, one out, that is all that the Greensboro Grasshoppers needed from Junker, and got the job done to earn his ninth save of the season…
Ben Norman was the top hitter for the WS Dash on Friday night, going 2-4/Run, while Harvin Mendoza was 1-2/HR/2 BB’s/2 Runs/RBI…The Dash’ starting pitcher Andrew Dalquist struggled, going three and a-third innings, giving up five runs, on 7 hits, with 3 BB’s and 2 K’s…The big kicker for Dalquist was he gave up three Hoppers Home Runs…Two solo HR’s off of Dalquist, and a two-run shot too…
The Greensboro Grasshoppers’ bullpen got great work from Ricky Devito, as he pitches three scoreless innings, giving up the 0 runs, on 1 hit, with 0 BB’s/5 K’s…..
The Hoppers took a 3-2 lead to the top of the ninth inning on Thursday evening, but ended up falling to the WS Dash, 7-5, in 11 Innings…On Friday, the Grasshoppers carried a 6-1 lead to the top of the ninth inning, and the GSO Hoppers held on to win, 6-4…..
This is the “Season of the Summer in the SALLY”, and the Hoppers sure won a big baseball game, on Friday night, at First National Bank Field…Hoppers now lead the Six-Game Series vs. the WS Dash, 3-1, with two more games left to be played this week…The season series now sits at 8-8, with everything all knotted up…Game One back on Tuesday was 8-6 GSO, Game Three on Thursday was 7-5 WS, then Game Four, on Friday goes to the Hoppers, 6-4…That’s three two-run games right there, and with the exception of that 19-5 Hoppers bash of the Dash, back on Wednesday afternoon, this has been a tight series this week at FNB Field…
