Clendenin, III, Harry Hillard

January 6, 1945 – August 26, 2022

Harry Hilliard Clendenin, III, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 27, 2022.

A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel. Visitation will be held at Forbis and Dick on Tuesday, August 30, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Harry was a graduate of Page High School, North Carolina State University (Kappa Alpha Order), and Wake Forest Law School. After passing the bar in 1970, Harry began a general practice with Smith, Moore, Smith, Schell and Hunter until he started his own practice in 1975 with Walton McNairy and Locke Clifford. Harry specialized in workers’ compensation and personal injury law for over 47 years. Harry was a certified mediator and served the public in this capacity for nearly 20 years. In addition to his law practice and serving as a mediator, Harry coached the Peaches ‘N’ Cream girls’ soccer team, and baseball at all age levels. He served as a JV coach with the Page Pirates High School baseball program for many years.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry H. & Peggy Clendenin, Jr.; his first wife, Katherine Poer Clendenin; and his daughter, Anne Rives Clendenin. Harry is survived by his second wife, Kelly Kiernan Clendenin; daughter, Katherine Clendenin Wagner (Rich); son, Harry H. Clendenin IV (Melissa); and grandchildren, Scott Reynolds, Matthew Reynolds, Claire Wagner, and Jackson Clendenin.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. David W. Harding, Dr. Steven Kline, Dr. Daniel R. Bensimon and Moses Cone Hospital for their compassionate care during Harry’s illness.
