Word coming in from the street/Holden Road:Coach Scott Bell has stepped down as the head football coach, at Smith High School

Word coming in this morning:Head football coach Scott Bell stepped down at Smith High School yesterday…Parent meeting called at 5pm for the JV and Varsity football teams and their parents, and the announcement was made then…Looking at a Smith assistant coach to take over as the interim head football coach…
(Coach Bell made his decision known to the leaders at Smith, on Sunday evening.)

This is our speculation here only, but Coach Bell had some health issues this season, and that could well have been the final nail, that drove home this decision…We wish him the best, in the future, down the football coaching road…Watch for more with Joe Sirera later today, at www.greensboro.com/HSXtra.com….

**********Talked to Coach Scott Bell, early this afternoon, and he told me that the health issues were the prevailing issue, in his stepping down at Smith…

Will need serious shoulder surgery soon, and that was weighing hard on him, having the time to deal with the shoulder, and continue coaching at the same time…He must take time now, to get that shoulder fixed…

Smith has talent, and, and it will be important to keep the kids that are at Smith, at Smith, and give them a chance to stay together, play together, and grow up and mature together…And those were Coach Bell’s thoughts too…++++++++++

  1. Not sure for the reasoning for stepping down but in all honesty I would want no parts in that position. Smith done had some good coaches the program of football there just isnt good. They have not had a good season since that 10′-11′ season with ebron.

  2. Looking at maxpreps since 2004 Smith has had a losing record every season up until now except that 2010-2011 season.

  3. More on local high school football…Taking to Joe Sirera this morning, and it was hoped that the Dudley-Hillside game could be, and would be made up next week, but then saw this on Twitter, a few minutes ago…

Confirmed: Dudley and Hillside will not complete the suspended game from Week 3, which was ended at halftime due to multiple fights outside the stadium. The win will go to Hillside.

Still wish that they could finish this game, with the Panthers and the Hornets…
