High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind:The Season is halfway over/done, and we’re still having fun trying to figure out who is really #1

Looks like Grimsley is the #1 team in the Metro 4-A right now, but Page could sure argue, since both teams/clubs are (2-0) in the conference…After just two weeks of conference play, we only have the two, Grimsley and Page, that are still Unbeaten in the Metro…While in the Mid-State 3-A Conference; Dudley, Eastern Guilford, and Southern Guilford are all still undefeated in league play…

The regular season is halfway over/done, and the fun has really just begun…Karen Carpenter said it well, way back in the day….”We’ve Only Just Begun”….

We have some disturbing/troubling news coming in from the High School OT this morning…
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Two separate football games were canceled in central North Carolina.

School officials said threats made around Friday night’s rivalry football game between Chapel Hill High School and East Chapel Hill High School were not credible. The game was postponed due to the threats.

According to letters sent from the principals of both high schools and posted to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Facebook page, multiple students reported hearing a threat of violence at the football game. The game was scheduled to be held on Friday night at Chapel Hill High School.

Meanwhile, a robbery at a nearby gas station canceled the game between Chatham Central and Jordan-Matthews high schools. A spokesperson for Chatham County Schools said the game would be rescheduled on Monday.

The school spokesperson said the decision was made to reschedule the game since it was getting late. The robbery happened at a Circle K off U.S. 64. Siler City police said a man entered the store, showed a gun and then ran away.

Earlier this week, a written threat at Enloe High School in Wake County prompted extra security at the school on Friday. A message written on a wall at the school said, “Shooting up the school on 9-23-2022.” A joint investigation between security for Wake County Schools and Raleigh police found the threat not credible.

On the Smith-Rockingham County game, from Jim Sands, at Rockingham County Now…
WENTWORTH – Rockingham got clawed their way back into the heart of the Mid-State 3A Conference race with a gritty 14-8 win over Ben L. Smith at Cougar Pride Stadium Friday night.

The Eagles made Rockingham sweat down the stretch however as they clung to a 6 point lead with less than two minutes to play and Smith threatening to take over with the ball near midfield.

The Cougars defense bent a couple of times down the stretch, but never broke, and ultimately made a game-saving stop on fourth down to lock up the win.

“That’s just what I told them after the game. There are a lot of question marks about our defense. Everybody I’ve talked to has said ‘what’s wrong with the defense? What’s going on with the defense?’ But the defense stepped up and played very, very well tonight,” Rockingham head football coach Brad Baker said.
