GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro’s (UNCG) women’s basketball team returns home to Fleming Gym to face the Davidson Wildcats on Thursday with a start time of 7 p.m.

· The Spartans dropped a road contest to the Kentucky Wildcats, 82-56, Sunday afternoon.

· Faith Price(Rasdale HS) led the Spartans in scoring with nine points off the bench.

· Khalis Cain posted eight points and five rebounds.

· Nasia Powell accumulated a 4-of-9 effort from the field.

· Akira Wiggins led the Spartans with five assists and added two steals.

· Antoniette Emma-Nnopu added six points and five rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

· UNCG’s defense has posted multiple league-leading marks with the Spartans leading in blocks per game (3.3) and steals per game (8.8).

· The Spartans turnover margin (+4.50) leads the league while their assist to turnover ratio (0.8) stands second in the Southern Conference (SoCon).

· UNCG’s 6.9 three-point field goals per game is good for second in the SoCon.

· Cain’s 9.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game are first in the league along with her 4.8 offensive rebounds per contest. Her 62.5 field goal percentage is second in the conference

· Powell leads the Spartans in scoring with 10.5 points per game.

· Price provides UNCG 10.0 points per game off the bench with 2.8 three-point field goals per game, good for second in the league.

· Kennedy Simpson posts 9.9 points per game with 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. Simpson’s steals are tied for fourth in the SoCon with Powell.

· Akira Wiggins’ 3.5 assists per game are the third-most in the league. The graduate student also averages 8.8 points per game.

· Emma-Nnopu provides 5.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per night in 11.5 minutes played per game.

SCOUTING DAVIDSON

· The Wildcats are 3-6 on the season with a schedule that has featured a home contest with Duke, a road matchup at Wofford, and a road game at 19th-ranked Maryland.

· Davidson posted a 71-56 win at Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon for their third win of the season.

· Elle Sutphin led all scorers with 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 11-of-11 from the foul line. She also posted eight rebounds.

· Suzi-Rose Deegan was the remaining Wildcat player in double-figure scoring with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting while adding seven rebounds and two steals.

· Sallie Schutz came off the bench to post nine points, shooting 3-of-6 from three-point range.

· Davidson held a 30-20 advantage in the paint over Jacksonville State.

· The Wildcats shot 51.1 percent for the contest and went 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter.

· Davidson finished 2021-22 with an 18-15 overall record with a 6-10 record in Atlantic 10 play.

· The Wildcats are picked to finish seventh in the 15-team Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

· After a weekend off, the Spartans embark on a three-game road trip beginning at South Carolina State Monday at 5:30 p.m.

· UNCG then heads south into Florida to face Stetson in an 11 a.m. contest next Thursday, December 15.

· The Spartans face their second Southeastern Conference opponent of the season on Sunday, December 18 with a matchup with a Florida Gators at 2 p.m.

· Virginia University Lynchburg awaits the Spartans when UNCG returns home Wednesday, December 21 to start a two-game home stand surrounding Christmas.

· UNCG faces Lenoir-Rhyne Friday, December 30 at 7 p.m. to finish the 2022 calendar year and their 2022-23 non-conference schedule.

SERIES HISTORY/LAST MATCHUP

· UNCG holds the lead in the all-time series against the Wildcats, 28-22.

· UNCG and Davidson were regular Southern Conference opponents from 1997 to 2016 when the Wildcats departed for the Atlantic 10.

· Last season’s matchup was the first time each side has faced each other as non-conference opponents since the 1996-97 season.

· Davidson claimed last year’s matchup, 56-52, on December 18, 2021.
