UNCG Women’s Basketball’s Cain Named SoCon Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team saw junior Khalis Cain earn Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week honors, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Cain started and played 25 minutes in UNCG’s lone game last week as the Spartans won, 68-60, versus in-state foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, Dec. 30. The native of San Jose, California, scored 15 points and tied for a game-high 11 rebounds in the contest, while also blocking two shots. Cain shot 7-for-9 (.778) from the field as the junior posted her fourth double-double of the season.

Among the SoCon, Cain is first in rebounding per game (9.6) and total rebounds (134), field goal percentage (.663), and total blocked shots (24) and per game (1.7), offensive rebounds total (67) and per game (4.8). She is also fifth in defensive rebounds per game (4.8), eighth in steals per game (1.4), 19th in scoring (9.1 ppg).

Around the nation, Cain is fourth in offensive rebounds per game, 23rd in total rebounds, 29th in total blocks, 35th in rebounds per game, and 43rd in blocks per game.

The Spartans begin SoCon play this Thursday, January 5 when they travel to Mercer for a 7:00 p.m. game. They then travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face Samford on Saturday, January 7 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
