UNCG Men’s Basketball Hosts Chattanooga for SoCon Home Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a 2-0 Southern Conference (SoCon) start to the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball schedule, the Spartans will return home to host the Chattanooga Mocs on Wednesday, January 4 with a start time of 7:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

· UNCG picked up its fourth win in the last five games with a 73-64 win at Wofford on Saturday.

· This was the first time since 2019-20 season that the Spartans are starting 2-0 in SoCon play.

· This was the 11th game this season where the Spartans led at the half.

· Keondre Kennedy paced the Spartans with 19 points.

· Keyshaun Langley had 16 points.

· Mikeal Brown-Jones chipped in a career-best 11 rebounds with seven points.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG is leading the conference in field goal percentage defense (39.1), scoring defense (64.4), and three-point percentage defense (29.9).
Among the nation, the Spartans are 31st in field goal percentage defense, 61st in three point percentage defense (29.9).
In the nation, Kobe Langley is 35th in assist/turnover ratio (2.74).
His twin brother, Keyshaun Langley is also ranked in the nation: 52nd in three-point percentage (40.2), 53rd in total three-point field goals made (39), and 72nd in total three-point percentage (97).
The Spartans are averaging 70.5 points per game, outscoring their opponents’ 64.4.
They are also outrebounding opponents, 37.6-35.1.
Keondre Kennedy (13.7), Keyshaun (12/2), and Brown-Jones (10.9) are leading the Spartans in points per game.
Kennedy (7.2) and Abdulsalam (6.1) are leading the team in rebounds per game.
UNCG has totaled 40 or more rebounds in five games this season.

JONES REACHING MILESTONES

· Head Coach Mike Jones is one win away from reaching 200 career wins as a head coach.

· He has had 174 wins with Radford and currently 25 victories with the Spartans.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga (9-6, 1-1 SoCon) is coming off a dominant 80-51 win at Mercer last Saturday in which the 29-point victory marked the fourth-largest win in a SoCon road contest in program history.
Entering NCAA DI action on Tuesday (1/3), Chattanooga ranks No. 1 in NCAA Division I behind a 12.3 three-pointers per game average.
The Mocs also lead the country in three pointers made (185), topping Liberty (184) and Oral Roberts (169).
Dalvin White is leading the country in assist/turnover ratio 4.67.
Jake Stephens is ranked in the top 100 in 14 categories.
The Mocs were voted to finish fourth in the SoCon Coaches Preseason Poll and second in the media poll.
Stephens was voted to the Preseason All-Conference Poll.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
UNCG opens its home SoCon schedule January 4, hosting defending SoCon champion Chattanooga at the Greensboro Coliseum for a 7 p.m. contest.
This will be the Frontline Workers’ Appreciation and Teddy Bear Toss Game.
The schedule continues January 7 for a 4 p.m. contest against Samford at the Greensboro Coliseum.
It will be the Fan Appreciation Game.

SERIES HISTORY
Chattanooga leads the series 25-27.
The first meeting between the two teams was January 6, 1992.
The Spartans split the series last year, winning on Feb. 17, 73-70 and falling on Jan. 20, 64-72.
UNCG is 6-2 in the last eight meetings against Chattanooga.
