UNCG Women’s Basketball Continues Road Trip at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UNC Greensboro’s (UNCG) women’s basketball team finishes out its road trip with a Southern Conference (SoCon) battle against the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday with a start time of 3 p.m. EST.

Both teams are coming off a SoCon opening win, and both are on a three-game win streak.

The Spartans beat the Mercer Bears 72-68 to open UNCG’s conference slate.
Faith Price had 18 points to lead the team.
Akira Wiggins led the game with four assists.
Khalis Cain had nine points, nine rebounds.
Isys Grady had 11 points.
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu had 6 points.
Khalis Cain had the most blocks in the game with two.
UNCG outmatched Mercer in points in the paint, points off turnovers, second chance points, fast break points, and points from the bench.

Cain was named SoCon Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
She started and played in 25 minutes in UNCG’s lone game last week as the Spartans won 68-60, versus in-state foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, Dec. 30
She scored 15 points and tied for a game-high 11 rebounds in the contest, while blocking two shots.

UNCG is leading the conference in turnovers forced per game (18.92).
As a team, the Spartans are 62nd in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (13.9).
Price is leading the team with 10.9 points per game, while Wiggins is second averaging 10.2 points per game.
Cain is leading the team with an average of 9.5 rebounds per game, and 1.6 blocks per game.
Among the nation, Cain is fourth in offensive rebounds per game (4.8), 28th in rebounds (134), 30th in blocks (24), 36th in rebounds per game (9.6), 46th in blocks per game (1.71).
Price is ranked ninth nationally in three-point attempts (94), 28th in three pointers (30).
UNCG has won the last three games.

Samford was voted to finish fourth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll and tied for third in the media poll.
Andrea Bailey and Sussy Ngulefac were voted to the All-SoCon Preseason Team.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 59-47 win over Western Carolina to open SoCon play.
Opponents are outscoring Samford 68.3-66.9.
Samford is ranked first in the conference in field goal percentage (44.1).
The Bulldogs are second in assists per game (13.8), third in assist/turnover ratio (0.62), in rebounds defensive per game (24.6), in three-point percentage (31.2), fourth in rebounds per game (35.38), fifth blocks per game (2.5) and three pointers per game (5.6).
Samford is nationally ranked 63rd in field goal percentage.
Andrea Bailey is leading the conference in field goal attempts (240), field goals made (110), points (292), points per game (18.2), steals (45), and steals per game (2.81).
Among the nation, Bailey is ranked in the top 25 in five categories: 11th in steals, 14th in field goal attempts, 17th in field goals made and points, and 25th in steals per game.

The Spartans play five of seven January contests on the road, with their only two home games coming January 12 against Furman and January 14 versus Wofford.
The Spartans hit the road again playing Western Carolina on January 19.

Samford has won the last nine games against UNCG.
The Bulldogs are 24-7 over the Spartans.
The Bulldogs won all three games last season, including a 59-60 victory in a quarterfinal game of the SoCon Tournament.
UNCG’s last win over Samford was a 55-54 victory on January 17 in Fleming Gym.
