UNCG Women’s Basketball Faces Western Carolina for Thursday Matchup

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro’s (UNCG) women’s basketball team hits the road to play Western Carolina in its lone contest of the week on Thursday night with a start time of 7 p.m. at the Ramsey Center

The Spartans fell to the Wofford Terriers, 51-55.
UNCG had 14 assists over Wofford’s five.
UNCG had 34 defensive rebounds compared to Wofford’s 28.
Isys Grady had eight points, two assists and led the game with a new career high of 13 rebounds.
Faith Price had 14 points to lead the Spartans.
Nitzan Amar led the game with five assists.
Akira Wiggins had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Nia Howard added nine points.
Khalis Cain added nine rebounds and four blocks

The Spartans are first in the conference in blocks per game (3.5) and turnovers forced per game (17.78).
UNCG is second in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (0.86), assists per game (13.4), scoring offense (67.4), three-point attempts per game (21.9), three pointers per game (6.2), and turnover margin (2.06).
Akira Wiggins is ranked first in the conference in assists (77) and assists per game (4.3).
Khalis Cain is ranked first in the conference in blocks (29), blocks per game (1.61), rebounds (170), offensive rebounds per game (4.8), and rebounds per game (9.4).
Cain is fourth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game, 1.3 difference between her and the leader, Angel Reese from LSU with 6.1 per game).
Faith Price is leading the conference in three-point attempts (150), three pointers (54), and three pointers per game (3.00).
Price is second in the nation in three-point attempts (150), 15 shy of the leader, Sammie Puisis from South Florida (165).
The Spartans are outscoring opponents 67.4 to 64.3 points per game.
They also have the edge in rebounding, 38.4 to 37.9.


· The Catamounts are coming off a 60-46 loss to Furman and prior to that they defeated Wofford, 53-49.

· Western Carolina is 8-11 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon.

· Western Carolina is ranked second in the conference in free throw
attempts (16.53) and three-point percentage defense (28.4).

· The Catamounts are third in the conference in scoring defense (61.8).

· Kyla Allison is leading the Catamount’s in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game.

· Allison is ranked fifth in the conference in field goal attempts (218) and
sixth in field goal percentage (39.9).

· Joi Reid is leading the Catamount’s in rebounds averaging 6.6 per

· Reid and Audrey Meyers are leading in blocks with 7.

· Shayane Poirit-Allard has 39 assists leading Western Carolina.


· UNCG takes a week off before another road trip to face Chattanooga on Thursday, January 26 at 7 p.m. EST.

· The Spartans wrap up the month with a battle at ETSU on January 28 at 1 pm.


· The Spartans trail the series, 35 -39.

· UNCG won both games last year with scores of 64-29 (Jan. 29 in Cullowhee) and 67-39 (Feb. 26 in Greensboro).

· The Spartans have won 10 of the last 12 games between the two teams.
