High School Basketball Tonight for 1/20/2023 with GDS boys and girls, Northern Guilford girls(16-0), and Grimsley boys all WINNERS:More Scores

High School Basketball Tonight for 1/20/2023 Finals:Lots of UPDATES coming in on this post….

6pm game at The DAC/Dillard Athletic Center:Greensboro Day School boys 60, Caldwell Academy 50
GDS(22-3)/Caldwell(12-8)…
End of First Quarter:GDS 14, Caldwell 11…Halftime:GDS 28, Caldwell 19…End of Third Quarter:GDS 42, Caldwell 31…Final:GDS 60, Caldwell 50
This could become one of the top Private School rivalries in the state, if they keep building this meeting up…Great crowd on hand, and the fans were for sure into this game…Joseph Bachman, for the Bengals, was very strong and agile in the post…It took Jaylen Cross, from Caldwell, a while to get untracked…And the GDS defense had a lot to do with Cross having trouble getting his game going…J3 Swindell, from Caldwell kept his team in the game early, and then Cross, Neal Swindell and others got going late in the third quarter/early fourth quarter, to help Caldwell cut the Greensboro Day lead to just six point….I don’t think Caldwell ever got the Bengals lead under six points, as Will Otto and his GDS teammates hit some key free throws down the stretch…GDS got a great defensive effort from all of their players, and you could tell Coach Freddy Johnson, and assistant coach Jeff Smith, had the GDS Bengals keyed in on defense tonight….The rivalry needs to keep growing, and Caldwell will need to win some games soon to help fuel the overall intensity of this rivalry…That is what will make the fires burn, both teams picking up wins along the way….

*********Thanks to Coach Freddy Johnson for getting us in over at Greensboro Day, on Friday night….**********

Greensboro Day School girls 35, Caldwell Academy 19
GDS(14-7)/Caldwell(6-4)

Northern Guilford girls 65, Grimsley 29
NG(16-0/8-0)/Grimsley(3-13/1-7)
End of First Quarter:NG 26, Grimsley 7…Halftime:NG 41, Grimsley 15…Final:NG 65, Grimsley 29
What else can you say about the NG Nighthawks women’s basketball team??? They just on getting better and better…Their reserves saw plenty of action again tonight, and you have to love the way Coach Kim Furlough mixes her starters, with the reserves in the end-game/fourth quarter situations…NG girls will have to keep on getting better, because we saw where 4-A foe Charlotte Catholic topped Bishop McGuinness, by around 15 points the other night…Charlotte Catholic has a 6’5 sophomore center, who is making some waves all around the 4-A West scene…NG will need to be ready for her come playoff time, and we think they will be ready for the challenge….

Grimsley boys 76, Northern Guilford 44
Grimsley(14-4/7-1)/NG(5-9/3-5)
Halftime:Grimsley 37, NG 16…End of Third Quarter:Grimsley 54, NG 29…Final:Grimsley 76, NG 44
Grimsley Scoring:Zacch Wiggins 20 points, Nick Keith 13, Alex Taylor 12, Synarus Twitty 9, Jaylon Bumpass 8, Bryce Davis 7, Faison Brandon 2
Northern Guilford Scoring: Ben Mulry 13 points, Kevin Mcfield 10, Will Thomas 9, Chris Mitchell 8, Jordan Williams 2, Cameron Milton 2
Very solid work turned in by our Steak N Shake Players of the Game from Grimsley, Zacch Wiggins, and Alex Taylor….Grimsley also got another solid effort from Nick Keith, and Keith was our POG last week at Page…Grimsley had a very tough presence in the post, with Bryce Davis more than holding his own, in the paint…Jaylon Bumpass continues to play well, and score well for the Whirlies..And what about that Synarus Twitty, and I want to keep on calling him Twitter…Twitty gives Grimsley outstanding support off of the bench, and along with Faison Brandon, and Liam McCarthy, Grimsley is able to run some very good rotations of players, in and out of their lineup….Northern continues to get steady scoring from Ben Mulry, and for some reason, Will Thomas and Kevin Mcfield also play their best, when we show up to broadcast the Nighthawks’ games…We missed seeing Michael Juergens on this night, and NG sure could have used his help out there in their battle with the Grimsley Whirlies…
*********Thanks to Ethan Albright, Clayton Nance, Coach Darryl Brown, and Mr. Courts for getting us in, and helping out at Grimsley HS, on Friday night…*********

On our broadcasts on this Friday night, we had the top local public school boys and girls teams, in Grimsley(14-4) and Northern Guilford(16-0), plus we had the top private school team, in the Greensboro Day School boys(22-3)…..
