UNCG Baseball Hits the Road to Face Elon, Hosts the Phoenix Wednesday

ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team hits the road for the first time, visiting Elon on Tuesday, February 28th with a first pitch of 4 p.m. and then is home for the second game of the series back on Wednesday, March 1st with a first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
UNCG hosted ACC opponent Notre Dame for a three-game series, February 24-26.
The Fighting Irish opened the series with a 6-5 win.
The Spartans had their first shut out victory of the season with a 12-0 win against Notre Dame on Saturday.
The final game was a fight to the ninth inning, with Notre Dame coming out on top, 7-4.
UNCG had five home runs between the three games.
The Spartans had three double plays.

Scouting UNCG
The Spartans were voted to finish third in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Kennedy Jones and Mitchell Smith were voted to the Preseason All-Conference first team.
Jones was named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List.
Dallas Callahan was voted to the Preseason All-Conference second team.
The Spartans have eight double plays this season, which is 14th in the nation.
They are 17th in the nation averaging 1.14 double plays per game.
Luke Holland leads the Spartans with a batting average of .500 in five games played, while Daniel Cerda is batting .440 (11-for-25) in seven games played.
Kennedy Jones is batting .323 (10-for-31) with four runs scored and four RBI.
In 13.1 innings pitched, Jay Miller leads the Spartan pitching staff with a 2.03 ERA, striking out eight this season.
Callahan has two of the Spartans’ five home runs this season.
Zack Budzik leads the team with eight RBIs.

Scouting Elon
The Phoenix are coming off an 8-3, win against Akron making their record 4-3.
They have won the last three of four games.
Elon started the season out with a shutout against Kentucky winning 2-0.
Shea Sprague was named CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time.
Sprague and Luke Stephenson were also named to CAA Preseason All-CAA team.
Freshman Ryan Spock was named CAA Rookie of the Week this past Monday.
The Phoenix faces up against six different conferences including ACC with Wake Forest and N.C State and American with East Carolina.
Up Next for the Spartans
Following the two games with the Phoenix, the Spartans host Rutgers for a three-game series this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 3-5). Friday’s first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
