Cerda Hits Walk-Off in 3-2 Win Over Rutgers

GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team came from behind to pull off a 3-2 win to begin the series against Rutgers.

Daniel Cerda was the game-winning batter in the bottom of the ninth to seal the win. With two runners on, he hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Jacob Budzik from third.

Jake Wolf came in relief and pitched 5.2 innings allowing no runs, and giving up three hits.

UNCG has won the last three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rutgers came to play starting off in the first inning with a single to the left side from Trevor Cohen, bringing home his teammates Ryan Lasko and Cameron Love.

UNCG countered with Zack Budzik on base and Dosi Jonas hit a double to left field cutting Rutgers’ advantage to one run, 2-1, in the bottom of the first.

Following a series of three-straight singles in the bottom of the second to load the bases, Dallas Callahan scored from Kennedy Jones’ sacrifice fly to the center field, to tie the game at two.

On Deck
The Spartans continue the three-game series against Rutgers on Saturday and Sunday with a first pitch slated for 2 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Continuing the home stand, UNCG will host NC State on Tuesday, March 5 with a first pitch at 4 p.m. Tuesday will be a Bark in the Park event.
