Pride earn the weekend conference sweep over Mary Baldwin with a Sunday win, 7-6

High Point, NC – While the Greensboro College Baseball team had already won the first two games of the three game weekend series with Mary Baldwin University, they set out Sunday to earn the sweep and go 3-0 to start USA South Conference play. The offense would guarantee the sweep as Junior Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) hit two home runs, while Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC), added one of his own to pace the Pride to a win over the Fighting Squirrels , 7-6.

Mary Baldwin got on the board first, but Carrick answered with a with a three-run homerun to grab the lead, 3-1. In the fourth inning, Sykes would go yard with his own homerun that also scored Sophomore Moses Lopez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) to give Greensboro the advantage, 5-1. The Fighting Squirrels were able to get one back in the sixth inning but, Carrick would hit his second homerun of the game to keep the Pride comfortably out in front. Senior Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) increased the lead to 7-2 after he hit an RBI double to left field and then the Pride would hold off a late rally by Mary Baldwin to earn the weekend sweep, 7-6.

Greensboro was led by Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC) who finished the game 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run, while Carrick was 2-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday, March 25th as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to face Methodist University in a weekend series.
