GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team wraps up a nine-game home stand with a single game against Towson on Thursday and then a Southern Conference (SoCon) three-game series against ETSU.
Thursday’s first pitch is slate for 4:00 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium. ETSU will be UNCG’s first SoCon opponent of the season.
LAST TIME OUT
· The Spartans won their fourth-straight game with a 5-3 win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
· Jessie Shipley hit her fourth home run of the weekend.
· Blayke Batten went 1-for-3 with one run scored and three RBI.
· Rhyann Jones tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, striking out four batters for UNCG
QUICK SPARTAN HITS
Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .386 batting average.
Brooklynn Maxwell is second with a .310 batting average.
Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 24 RBI and eight home runs.
Chartrand leads UNCG with 48 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 51.1 innings thus far.
Rhyann Jones is 6-1 in the circle.
Nationally, the Spartans are: 4th in walks (121), 10th in double plays per game (0.50), 25th in home runs per game (1.17), 40th in doubles (40).
UNCG is leading the conference in double plays per game, doubles, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, and walks.
Among the nation, Brown is 32nd in home runs (8), 65th in home runs per game (0.27).
Delaney Cumbie is 12th nationally in walks per game (0.87), and 66th in on base percentage (.500)
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans’ 3-2 start in Florida.
Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
Cumbie earned her second recognition from the SoCon as Player of the Week for batting .571 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored.
Jones was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week this week after going 1-0 in 11.1 innings pitched.
SCOUTING TOWSON
The Tigers are 12-11 overall and 3-3 in the CAA.
Towson has lost the last two games, both to Villanova.
Nationally, the Tigers are 19th in triples per game (0.35), 83rd in stolen bases per game (1.35), and 88th in scoring (4.78).
Mackenzie Lake is eighth in the nation in triples (4) and 10th in triples per game (0.17).
Lake leads the team with 17 runs scored.
Madyson Peters is 12th in the nation with 0.43 doubles per game, and 16th with 10 doubles.
Peters is leading the team with a .387 batting average and 21 RBI, as one of four Tigers batting over .300.
Maddie Gardner, who has thrown 57.2 innings this season has a 2.97 ERA and leads the pitching staff with 44 strikeouts.
Three different Tigers have earned CAA weekly awards so far this season.
Towson welcomed 10 newcomers this year.

UNCG leads the series 12-6.
UNCG won 4-1 on February 26 in Greensboro, N.C. against the Tigers.
SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU is 7-18 overall.
The Bucs last had a three-game series against Eastern Illinois, where ETSU went 2-1.
Interim Head Coach Cheryl Milligan earned her first victory at the helm of the Bucs with a 5-0 shutout over NC State.
Cameron Young is leading the team with a .341 batting average.
Sara Muir and Riley Nayadley each have 13 RBI to lead the team.
Muir also has a team-best five home runs, which is fifth in the SoCon.
Muir was named SoCon Player of the Week after ETSU picked up three wins at the Wolfpack Classic. She went .411 at the plate that week.
Brianna Bailey has thrown 67.2 innings this season, the most of the pitching staff, with a 2.38 ERA and a 5-5 record.
Bailey is second in the SoCon with 60 strikeouts.
ETSU was voted to finish last in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
Young was voted to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference team.

UNCG leads the series 33-9.
UNCG swept the series against ETSU last season with scores of 3-2, 6-1, and 4-2.
