Greensboro College Pride Baseball drops first game of weekend series at Methodist
Fayetteville, NC – The Greensboro College Baseball team traveled east for a crucial USA South Conference weekend series with Methodist University. After starting conference play at 3-0, the Pride were looking to keep the momentum going to move up in the standings, but unfortunately, they would drop the Saturday afternoon game, 5-1.
Freshman Michael Richards (Former USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week)) took the mound for Greensboro, but the Monarchs struck first scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. However, over the next few innings, Richards and his defense kept Methodist off the scoreboard, until they struck again twice, in the fifth inning, to increase their advantage to 3-0. The Monarchs would add two more runs and then the Pride answered with an RBI single from Freshman Louis Berini (Bahama, NC), but that is all the scoring they could get as Greensboro fell in the first game of the weekend series by a final score of 5-1.
The Pride were led by Junior Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) who finished 2-4, while Berini added a hit and an RBI in a pinch-hitting situation. Greensboro will return to action tomorrow as they, once again, face the Monarchs in a Sunday doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
