UNCG Softball Wins Ninth-Straight Defeating Charlotte, 4-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team claimed its ninth-straight win with a 4-2 victory against in-state rival Charlotte 49ers Wednesday evening at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.

The nine-game win streak is the first this season and matches the streak from last season’s nine game win streak between March 20 and April 3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG had at least one hit and a base runner in each of the seven innings, and Maddie Spell kept the Niners from scoring through the first five innings.

The Spartan’s defense was also on par, as the infield turned a double play in the bottom of the third and fifth innings.

After threatening in each of the first four innings, Delaney Cumbie led off with a walk and Brooklynn Maxwell reached on a bunt. Samantha Lagrama moved the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before Batten was able to pick the first pitch and drive it over the left field wall for a three-run home run.

UNCG pushed across another run in the top of the sixth after Jaden Cheek hit a two-out triple down the right field line and Cumbie drove her in with a hit to right center for a 4-0 advantage.

Charlotte reacted in the bottom of the sixth as Kassidy Krupit doubled to right center and drove in the Niners’ first run to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.

With no outs in the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded, Ariana Rodi hit a sacrifice fly in foul territory to right field cutting the deficit to two, 4-2. Spell fought back and retired the next two batters with a foul out and a strike out to hold on to the win.
