Calhoun Receives Inaugural Male Student Athlete of the Week Award
High Point-Thomasville NC– The High Point-Thomasville HiToms, in conjunction with Piedmont Federal, High Point Enterprise, and the High Point Rotary Club, are proud to announce the first of six pairs of spring student athlete honorees.

Donovan Calhoun of Wesleyan Christian Academy, junior, impressed at more than one event in the last week. En route to winning both the 100 and 200 meter races at the Cary Academy Invitational, Calhoun set school and meet records with a time of 10.66 in the 100m and sub 21.9 in the 200m. The Junior standout followed up that performance by taking first place again in the 100m, posting a time of 10.67 at a home meet.

Donovan Calhoun is an 11th grade student-athlete at Wesleyan Christian Academy, where he is a member of the track/field and soccer teams. During his high school tenure, this three-time All-American athlete has achieved the following accomplishments: 2023 NC Runners Independent Schools All-State Boys, 2023 NC Runners Independent Schools Indoor State Champion (55m dash), 2023 AAU National Indoor Track High School Champion (60m dash), 2023 Guilford County Indoor Championships (55m Indoor Runner Up), 2022 AAU National Indoor Track High School Champion (60m dash), 2022 AAU National Indoor Track High School Runner Up (200m dash), 2022 AAU National Junior Olympics All-American (200m dash; 7th in the country) and 2022 NC Runners Independent Schools Indoor State Championship (third place in the 100m and 200m dash).

Donovan has a 4.7 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. He aspires to major in supply chain management/logistics or engineering while also serving as a member of his university’s track or soccer team.

Donovan is the son of Wendell and Adrienne Calhoun and has one sister, Yolanda.

Dennen Honored as First Female Student Athlete of the Week Honoree
High Point-Thomasville NC— The High Point-Thomasville HiToms, in conjunction with Piedmont Federal, High Point Enterprise, and the High Point Rotary Club, are proud to announce the first of six pairs of spring student athlete honorees.

This weeks female recipient of the recognition is Bishop McGuiness Catholic High School Sophomore, Kate Dennen. This past week, Dennen displayed her offensive prowess by scoring 11 goals with 4 assists in an 18-8 victory over the 1st place Atkins Camels.

Amassing 42 goals and 19 assists in just six 2023 contests, Dennen is following up a freshman campaign that saw the lefty score 100 goals, record 35 assists and lead the Villains to the conference championship and the third-round of the ‘Open’ NCHSAA women’s lacrosse playoffs.

Kate is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Dennen and has one sister at Bishop McGuiness, Ally, and two older brothers.
