UNCG Baseball Falls In Tough Battle Against VMI

LEXINGTON, VA – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in a high-scoring game against VMI on Friday afternoon, 16-11.

In the top of the third, Zack Budzik hit his first home run of the season driving in Kennedy Jones and Bradley Bott to tie the game at three. His homer was one of his three hits in the game. He was one of three Spartans that had multi-hit games, swinging 3-for-6 at the plate with four RBI and one run scored.

Dallas Callahan hit one out of the park in the top of the fourth, scoring Caleb Cozart to give UNCG its first lead, 5-4. The two-run shot was Callahan’s third home run of the season.

How It Happened

VMI’s Cole Garrett started the scoring off in the bottom of the first with a home run with one out scoring his teammates Justin Strake and Trey Morgan for a 3-0 lead.

The Keydets took the lead back in the bottom of the third with a RBI single from Garrett, 4-3.

Both teams scored five runs between the fourth and fifth innings as VMI kept the lead, 9-8. The Spartans regained the lead with two runs on one hit and a wild pitch, 10-9, in the top of the sixth. VMI tied the game at 10 in the bottom of the frame and UNCG responded in the top of the seventh for its final lead of the game as Budzik doubled to left field scoring Bott from third, 11-10.

VMI then scored six runs on five hits and two errors between two innings for a 16-11 advantage keeping UNCG scoreless in the eighth and ninth for the win.
