Pride rally to earn a split with Pfeiffer on Monday afternoon

High Point, NC – After 92 hours in between when the game was postponed on Thursday and then restarted on Monday afternoon, the Greensboro College Baseball team and Pfeiffer University were back on the field at Truist Point Stadium to finish game one of the series and then play game two right after. The first game would see the Falcons come away with the win 1-1 and then in game two the Pride prevailed, 5-3

Game One

Pfeiffer took an early two-run lead in the top of the second inning, but Greensboro got one back in their half of the inning, when Freshman Louis Berini (Bahama, NC) hit an RBI double to center field to make the game 2-1. However, before the rain came down, the Falcons were able to push six runners across home plate and when the game was postponed for the night they held the advantage, 8-1. On Monday they scored three more runs but in the bottom of the ninth, Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) cut the lead to eight runs with a two RBI single. However, that is all the Pride would get as they fell to Pfeiffer, 11-3.
Greensboro was led by Hayen who finished 4-5 with two RBI’s, while Sophomore Moses Lopez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and Berini each had two hits.

Game Two

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, the Pride had their first big opportunity of the game but were unable to capitalize on it. Outstanding pitching from Senior Sam Peddycord (Kernersville, NC), to go along with his team’s defense allowed the game to remain scoreless going into the sixth inning. Senior Jake Baldini (Clemmons, NC) would eventually relieve Peddycord on the mound, but the Falcons would break through with a score to take the lead, 1-0. However, Greensboro answered when Berini drove a two RBI single into right field, giving the Pride the one run advantage, 2-1 which was followed by another answer from Pfeifer to go back in front. With two outs and two on, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Junior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) came to the plate and smacked a double off the wall to drive in the two runs for the lead, 4-3 and in the bottom of the eighth inning Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) gave the Pride some insurance with an RBI single, which clinched the win, 5-3.

Berini finished the game going 2-4 with two RBI’s and a run, while Edmonds was 1-3 with two RBI’s.

Greensboro will return to action on Wednesday, April 12th has they host Roanoke College at Truist Point Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
