UNCG Baseball Drops Mid-Week Game to Gardner-Webb

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped a mid-week game to Gardner-Webb, 9-3, at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Daniel Cerda hit a leadoff home run for his fourth home run of the season. He went 2-for-5 at the plate and was just one of the two Spartans that had a multi-hit game. Luke Jenkins(Grimsley HS) was the other with a multi-hit game, swinging 2-for-4.

How it happened

Following a 1-0 UNCG lead, Gardner-Webb countered in the top of the second, scoring three runs off two hits, to take a 3-1 advantage.

Both teams went scoreless between the third and fifth innings before the Runnin’ Bulldogs scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh to extend its lead 8-1.

UNCG had a last-minute rally in the top of the eighth, as Jenkins singled to lead off and Dosi Jonas hit one straight down the left field line allowing Jenkins to score. Jonas was able to score later off a wild pitch, cutting the Spartans’ deficit to five 8-3.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs sealed their win with an additional run off a wild pitch in the top of the ninth, for a 9-3 victory.
