No. 8 UNCG Men’s Tennis Takes Doubles Point, Falls to No. 1 Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s tennis team entered the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament as the eighth seed and fell to the top-seeded Chattanooga Mocs, 5-1, on Thursday morning at the Champions Club.

Chattanooga took the first doubles match on court three, 6-0. UNCG then shocked the field and won the remaining two matches, first on court one where Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Christopher Johns defeated the Mocs Simon Labbe and Peyton Gatti, 7-5.

Hampus Johansson and David Flisberg then stepped up and won their battle on court two 7-6 (7-3), taking the advantage over Kerim Hyatt and Kristof Kincses.

In singles action, Chattanooga won courts one, six, and two with straight sets leaving it down to one more match.

Devon Moskowitz forced a first-set tiebreaker on court five, where the Mocs’ Ryan Mudre earned the win 7-6 (7-3) and ultimately claimed victory with a second-set 6-3 win. On court three, the Mocs’ Gabriel Castillo and the Spartans’ John Gabelic made it a close one where Castillo won 6-3, 6-4.

Courts five and three finished not far behind each other as the top-seeded Chattanooga Mocs won the match 5-1 to move on to the semifinal round to take on the No. 5 Furman Paladins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
