Pride storm back in Game 3 for series sweep at Brevard

Brevard, NC – Before the start of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament, the Greensboro College Baseball team had one more regular season game to take care of as they faced Brevard College in Game 3 of the weekend series. After winning the first two games, the Pride were looking for a series sweep, along with their 7th win in 8 games, and they would do just that, defeating the Tornados by a final score 12-6.

Brevard got the first run of the game, in the bottom of the first inning, and then added four more in the second inning., to take the early lead, 5-0. Greensboro would answer when Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) hit a two RBI double, scoring Junior Adam Weber (Mebane, NC) and Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC), to pull to within three runs. However, the Tornados got one of those runs back, to end the third inning, 6-2. In the fourth inning, Gardner would pull the Pride to within two runs, after hitting an RBI single, and it stayed that way until the top of the seventh inning when Senior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) hit a double to drive in Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC) to get within one run, 6-5. Greensboro took their first lead of the game after a Sykes two-run double and that was followed by a Hayen sacrifice fly, scoring Weber, and then a three-run home run by Sophomore Myles Vacharasin (Land O’ Lakes, FL) to increase their advantage to 10-6. The Pride continued to score in the top of the ninth inning, as Weber and Hayen combined for two RBI’s and then Edmonds finished off the game on the mound, as Greensboro earned the series sweep with the win, 12-6.

Greensboro was led by Gardner, who finished the game 4-4 with 2 RBI’s and 3 Runs, while Hayen, went 3-5 with 4 RBI’s. In addition, Freshman Louis Berini (Bahama, NC) finished 3-3, scoring 3 runs. and on the mound, Junior Noah Caldwell (Lake
Norman, NC) picked up the win.
