When we arrived after coming in from the Guilford County Middle Schools Track and Field Meet, over at Dudley HS, the score was NWG 5, SEG 2 in the fourth inning…End of four, the score was yes, Northwest Guilford 5, Southeast Guilford 2…Grubb on the mound for SEG, and Azzarello was toeing the rubber for NWG…Azzarello ending up going 5 1/3 Innings and he gave up four Southeast runs…Aidan Wagner came on to relieve Azzarello on the hill, and then Webb came on for Wagner, after Wagner got in trouble…By the end of the fifth inning, Northwest had moved out in front, 6-2, over SEG and in the fifth, Silas Boris came up with a big RBI double for the NWG Vikings…
In the top of the sixth inning, SEG got RBI singles from both Chancelor Terry and Bubba Sims, and the Falcons were able to cut the NWG lead to just two runs, at 6-4 NWG Vikings…NWG got one of those runs back, in the bottom of the sixth frame, to make it a 7-4 game, in favor of Northwest…
With Justin Webb working on the save for the NWG Vikings, and with NWG up 7-4, things got a bit interesting in the top of the seventh inning, with the SEG Falcons at the plate…Webb on the bump, trying to help his NWG squad knock off the Falcons, from Southeast Guilford High School…
Luke Kimrey got the Falcons moving with his single…Then Matt Corder drew a walk…SEG got a SAC bunt to advance Kimrey to third, and Corder took his place at second base…Luke Kelly had a ground out, that drove in Kimrey from third for the RBI, and that made your score, NWG 7, SEG 5…Now just a two-run difference again…It was the SAC bunt for Out 1, the ground out by Kelly made it Out 2, and then Webb got SEG’s Miles Odom to end the ballgame, and this sent the Northwest Guilford Vikings to the Winner’s Circle, as the 2023 Metro 4-A Regular Season Champions, and with tonight’s victory, the Northwest Guilford Vikings are also the 2023 Metro 4-A Conference Tournament Champions….
Congrats to both Northwest Guilford and Southeast Guilford, on a well-played Championship Game…
