Greensboro College Softball becomes winningest team in program history and earns a spot in the USA South Championship next Friday

Greensboro, NC – Saturday was a history making day for two reasons for the Greensboro College Softball team. First, the program’s Seniors would walk across the stage at graduation, in front of their family and friends, and then they would join their teammates at Penn-Wright Stadium at Barber Park to defeat Methodist University, 7-1. With the win, the Pride advance to next weekend’s USA South Athletic Conference Championship, while also winning their 32nd game of the season, making this team the winningest in program history.

Greensboro wasted no time jumping out to an early advantage in the first inning, as Junior Alexis Sox (Burlington, NC) drove in Senior Kailey Walker (Eden, NC) and that was followed by a Junior Ivy Ray (Thomasville, NC) sacrifice fly, scoring Senior Kassie Simmons (Gibsonville, NC) making the lead 2-0. The scoring would continue in the second inning when Sophomore Madison Dillner (Leicester, NC) and Sox each drove in a run to increase the Pride advantage to four runs and then in the fourth inning Sox came through again, this time hitting a two RBI single to take a commanding lead, 6-0. The Monarchs were able to put together three runs, but in between, a Dillner RBI gave Greensboro all the runs they needed as they came away with the win, 7-3.

The Pride were led by Sox who was a perfect 4-4, with 4 RBI’s, while Simmons went 2-3 with a run. In addition, Simmons earned the win on the mound, striking out three batters, while only giving up four hits.

Greensboro will return to action on Friday, May 12th as they travel to Pfeiffer University to face the Falcons in the USA South Championship. The two teams will play a best of 3 series, with two games on Friday and one on Saturday, if necessary. Stay tuned to www.greensborocollegesports.com for official start times.
