UNCG’s Chartrand Earns Second SoCon Player of the Week Award

Southern Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team saw sophomore Jorde Chartrand named Southern Conference (SoCon) softball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday. This is Chartrand’s second weekly honor of the season.

During the season, Delaney Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week twice, Maddie Spell earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice, and Rhyann Jones was voted Pitcher of the Week.

Chartrand batted .417 for UNCG as the Spartans went 3-1 last week at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Chartrand tossed 5.2 innings against Charlotte giving up one hit, one run, and striking out four. After going hitless at the plate in a 3-0 setback against the 49ers on Tuesday, Chartrand went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI in a 6-2 victory over Western Carolina on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.

In the second game, the Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, native was 3-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBI and a run scored as the Spartans won 8-0 to clinch the SoCon regular-season title. In Sunday’s series finale against the Catamounts, Chartrand was hitless, but the sophomore threw two innings and struck out one batter in the team’s 6-0 victory.

The two shutouts gave UNCG a total of 10 so far this season.

Among the SoCon offensive categories, Chartrand is fourth in batting average (.367), fifth in slugging percentage (.602) and runs batted in (36), ninth in on base percentage (.411) and total bases (77).

Among the SoCon in pitching categories, Chartrand is first in saves (4), second in games in relief (18), third in opposing batting average (.231) and games finished (14), fourth in appearances (30), seventh in batters struck out (81), ninth in batters struck out looking (18) and wins (7), 10th in innings pitched (99.1)

Her four saves in the circle are 28th in the nation.

She is currently leading the team with a .367 batting average, .602 slugging percentage, and has a .411 on base percentage. She has hit eight home runs, six doubles and is one of nine Spartans with double digit RBI. In the circle, she has a 3.38 ERA with a 7-7 overall record with four saves. Chartrand has tossed four complete games with 99.1 innings pitched giving up 88 hits and striking out 81 batters.
