Now how do begin to split up the Victory Pie, from this Thursday night win, and we have to also make note that tonight’s game was the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ fourth straight win…Going back to their 8-7 win at Winston on Sunday, and then taking it 7-5 Tuesday, 8-4 on Wednesday, and now the 4-3 nail-biter on Thursday…

And how do we begin to split up the Pieces of the Pie, from the success the Hoppers saw on Thirsty Thursday, at First National Bank Field….Well, let’s break it up into Five Pieces…Five Steak n Shake Players of the Game, here’s what we have….

Number One would be the Hoppers starting pitcher, Po-Yu Chen…He got things going on the hill, and he lasted a very solid six innings out there for Greensboro…Chen gave up 2 runs on five hits, but he gave up NO walks, and struck out five Jersey Shore batters…Very impressive outing for Chen, and maybe his best of the season…Slice of Pie number two would belong to reliever Dante Mendoza who took home the win…Mendoza goes two innings, giving up 0 runs, on one hit, with a walk, and four big K’s…Then piece of pie number three will go to Jack Carey…Carey gets the Save, his third of the season for the former Duke Blue Devil, and he shows all ones, one run, on one hit, with one walk, and one strikeout, in his one inning of work, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers win the game, by one run, 4-3…

Piece of Pie number four, on the Steak n Shake Player of the Game menu, will be delivered to Mikol Escotto…Escotto delivered with a 2-4 night at the plate including a Double, plus he scored a run, and he drove in a run….Our final Piece of Pie ends up on Tres Gonzalez’ plate…He is a fairly new Hopper and this is his first trip into the Steak n Shake Player of the Game territory…Tres was 1-3, and he scored a key run, and he drove in a run….

We also need to find a sliver of the Pie for Sammy Siani, as he scored what proved to be the game-winning run, after drawing a walk, and then scoring the Hoppers’ fourth run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, as he came on to cross home plate with the game-winner, on Mikol Escotto’s double to left field, that ended up being, the Game-Winning RBI…
(If we could stick in our thumb, and pull out a plum from the pie, it/the plum might go to Mike Jarvis…Jarvis produced his 21st RBI of the season on Thursday night.)

By looking at these portions of the Pie, it proves it takes many different working pieces, if you want your team to have the chance take home the whole pastry….A cherry pie, with a touch of whipped cream on top, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers are able to whip up their fourth straight victory, and they made it now three wins in a-row, over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, and this Jersey Shore team is a very talented core unit….

Jersey Shore got a Double from Casey Martin, and a Triple by Kendall Simmons, while Caleb Ricketts went 2-4, with a run scored, and a run driven in for the ‘Claws…Marcus LeeSang had no hits for the Claws’ but he scored the the third run of the game for JS, after drawing a walk in the top of the ninth…LeeSang’s run made it 4-3 Greensboro, after the Hoppers had taken a 4-2 lead into the ninth…LeeSang also produced a SAC Fly RBI, in the fifth inning…

You might have to say that Victor Vargas was the top BlueClaw pitcher on the evening….He started for Jersey Shore, and went for three innings, giving up 0 runs, on 0 hits, with a walk and a strikeout…Carlos Betancourt also threw well for JS, working for two innings, and allowing 0 runs/0 hits/0 BB’S/2 K’s….

As the real old saying goes, Pie are Round, Bunny Bread are Square…And with are breakdown of the Thursday night game, in the form of pie presentation, we can now move on, and look forward to the Friday night contest, coming up between the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and the Jersey Shore BlueClaws…

Up Next:Jersey Shore BlueClaws(12-14) at the Greensboro Grasshoppers(19-11)…Game time on Friday night at 6:30pm…BlueClaws looking to their left-hander Matt Osterberg, while the Hoppers will count on their LHP Anthony Solometo to carry them early on in this matchup…If you can’t make it to the game, or if you leave early and want to follow the finish on your way home, be sure to Listen LIVE, when you CLICK HERE, at GSOHoppers.com…You can also check out the broadcast while you are that game, and there will be a Fireworks Show following Friday’s game…That fireworks show will be a FANomenal Fireworks Show…
