Jersey Shore BlueClaws(12-15)

Early in this game, like way early, back in the bottom of the First Inning, it was the Greensboro Grasshoppers getting just about all of the runs that they would need, as the Hoppers posted half of their game-ending total of runs, with Hudson Head connecting for a LONG GONE home run to right field…And this wasn’t just any HR, this was a Three-Run shot, scoring Jase Bowen, Will Matthiessen, and Hudson Head in order…With the Head shot, the Grasshoppers took a 3-2 lead into the second inning…And before we step away from the first inning, and head on up to the second inning, let me give you a scoop…

This home run off of the bat of Hudson Head happened, because before he sees each pitch, Hudson Head does the “San Antonio Shimmy”…It is a body movement, a Shimmy that gets him ready in the left side of the batter’s box…The Shimmy from San Antonio, Texas native Hudson Head is the real deal…He was doing it here last year(2022), and he has brought The Shimmy back to town/Greensboro this season….I have seen it in person now for two years, the little body shake he does, is like a Shimmy…”The San Antonio Shimmy” is the real deal, that’s a fact…It helped push the Greensboro Grasshoppers out in front, 3-2, on Friday night…
(Don’t go messing with The Shimmy.)

We had the Shimmy Factor that worked to the Hoppers’ advantage and there was a defensive play that would have made Charlie Hustle/Pete Rose want to sign up and play one more game…Greensboro’s Brenden Dixon handled a ground ball from the ‘Claws Wilfredo Flores in the top of the second inning, and the ball was fielded by Dixon maybe 15 behind the first base bag, and with Flores flying from home plate to first, and Dixon trying to get to the bag before Flores arrived, this was a true “Battle for the Bag”, and Dixon pulled off one heck of an effort, and caught the ground ball came running toward first base, and he lunged, dived onto the pillow, and smothered the base, and BEAT Flores, to record the out…One of the best defensive plays that we have seen so far this season…The effort of Dixon alone was enough to make you jump out of your seat…When Dixon hit that bag with the ball to get the out, he became one of the key figures/factors in the win by the home team…

It was another steady and productive night at the plate for Greensboro’s Mikol Escotto, with the Hoppers shortstop going 2-4, with a Double, a run scored, and two runs driven in…Escotto’s double plated two Hopper runs in the fifth inning, to put the Grasshoppers out in front, 6-3…The Hoppers’ Will Matthiessen went 0-1, but Big Will drew three walks, and he scored two big runs…Mike Jarvis had an RBI Double for the home team…Jase Bowen was 1-4, with a run and two stolen bases…

Between the Hudson Head shimmy, and the Brendan Dixon defensive play at first base, we had another good group of key plays, that turned this game in the direction of the boys that have now Five Games in a-row…Nice run going and they have already won this six-game series with Jersey Shore…

One of those old sayings/phrases that sticks with you is, “You gotta hate that”…And for Anthony Solometo, “You Gotta Hate That”…You sure wish he could have hung around and picked up the Win tonight, but he missed the bus stop, by 1/3 of an inning..Solometo worked 4 2/3’s innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, with 6 BB’s, and 6 K’s….Solometo worked hard, and threw 91 pitches, so he was at his limit, but he is getting close…He will work to cut those walks in half, and will be there soon..Santiago Florez rolled in to get the win, going 1 1/3 innings, with 0 runs, on two hits…Eddy Yean worked an inning to get the Hold, and then Will Kobos came on to “Close Out the ‘Claws”…And that is exactly what Kobos did…For his two innings, the eighth and the ninth, it was 0 Runs/0 Hits, 1 BB/4 K’s from Kobos…Will working hard again, and picking his second Save this week….He has been the closer, that “Can Close Out the ‘Claws”

Casey Martin proved again tonight, why he is considered one of the top hitters on the BlueClaws’ roster…From his leadoff spot in the batting order, Martin was 2-4, with a walk, and two runs scored…He scored half of the ‘Claws markers on this night…Kendall Simmons also collected two hits for the ‘Claws, with one of his hits being a Double, and he also drew a walk, and he picked up one RBI…Leandro Pineda was 1-3, with a BB and 2 RBI for Jersey Shore…The Greensboro Grasshoppers pitching staff walked 8 ‘Claws, but the Hoppers’ pitchers turned right around, and struck out 13 JS batters…

After the Friday night 6-4 finish, the Greensboro Grasshoppers have won five straight games, but they will have to pack Friday night’s game away, and begin to get ready for Saturday…
