UNCG Baseball Rallies For 6-5 Win At ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team rallied for a 6-5 win against ETSU on Friday afternoon at Thomas Stadium in Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

Kennedy Jones hit his 14th home run of the season in the top of the fifth. He went 3-for-5 at the plate and was one of three Spartans with a multi-hit game. Dosi Jonas went 2-for-5 and Zack Budzik hit 3-for-4.

Dallas Callahan hit his seventh home run in the top of the ninth that cut the deficit to one run, 5-4.

How It Happened

Daniel Cerda began the scoring for the Spartans in the top of the second hitting an RBI ground out that scored Budzik for a 1-0 lead.

Budzik then crossed home again in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt from Callahan, extending the Spartans’ advantage to 3-0.

ETSU tied the game at three in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs off three hits. The Bucs continued the momentum in the bottom of the eighth taking their first lead of the game, 5-3, scoring two runs off four hits.

UNCG sealed the win in the top of the ninth starting with Callahan’s solo home run to left field, 5-4. Jacob Budzik then scored off of Jonas’ RBI single to left field tying the game at five. Mitchell Smith hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jones from third for the eventual game-winning run, 6-5.

On Deck

The Spartans finish the regular season with game three against ETSU on Saturday, May 20th at 10 a.m. at Thomas Stadium.

UNCG then heads to the Southern Conference Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina at Fluor Field starting May 24th.
