Final from First National Bank Field on Tuesday night:

WP:Po-Yu Chen(1-3)/LP:Haden Erbe(0-1)

Hoppers-10-13-0
Hot Rods-6-11-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(21-19)
Bowling Green Hot Rods(18-20)

The Hoppers losing streak is finally over….Greensboro was swept in six games at Asheville, and they had lost two straight games going into the six-game ASHE series…Eight games, an Eight-Game Skid, and it is now just a memory…Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win Again, at First National Bank Field, on Tuesday night…It was just like What Dorothy Said, back in the old Wizard of Oz movie…”There’s No Place Like Home”, “There’s No Place Like Home”, “There’s No Place Like Home”….And that was the case, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers took a 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning…

Bob Seymour connected on a solo home run to right field, that gave the Hot Rods a short-lived 1-0 advantage in the top of the first…But in the bottom part of that first frame, the Hoppers found their game, with runs from Tres Gonzalez, Tsung-Che Cheng, Jase Bowen, and Mike Jarvis…The Hoppers got RBI from Jackson Glenn, Bowen, and they got two from Jarvis…Big two-run home run for Mike Jarvis, as lined one out of the park, sending it deep into left field…

Greensboro Grasshoppers up 4-1, at the end of the first inning, and winning seemed like a possibility for the home team, and remember What Dorothy Said, “There’s No Place Like Home”…..The home team was in front to stay.

Greensboro would score again in the bottom of the second frame, after Wyatt Hendrie got things started with a Double to right field, and Hendrie came in to score on Ernie Ordonez’ RBI ground ball single into right field…The Grasshoppers now feeling right at home, with a 5-1 lead in the contest…

The Hoppers added another run in the third inning, after Mike Jarvis doubled on a liner to left, as he led off the inning, and Jarvis came around to score, on a SAC Fly RBI, from Will Matthiessen…Now the home team is really beginning to hit their comfort zone, as the Hoppers take a 6-1 lead over Bowling Green at this stage of the game…

Wyatt Hendrie said he wasn’t going to be backing off, and he sent a shot to left field that left the yard, and with the Hendrie Homer, the Hoppers are up 7-1, as the fourth inning came to a close…

The Grasshoppers grabbed two more runs in fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-1…Mike Jarvis reached on a walk, and Hudson Head got on board with a single to right field, and then Big Will Matthiessen brought them both home with his two-run double to right…Home team on top, 9-1, going to the sixth inning….

Bowling Green came up with the Hot Rods second run of the game, when an RBI single by Blake Robertson brought in Nick Schnell, but the Greensboro Grasshoppers got that run back when Jase Bowen’s RBI single plated Tsung-Che Cheng, and now the Grasshoppers were up on top, 10-2 after six innings…

Hey, with your home team up 10-2, and carrying an eight-run advantage, as they are trying to break up and eight-game losing streak, you have all of the runs you need, right???

Maybe not…With Michell Miliano on the hill in the top of the seventh inning, the Bowling Green Hot Rods go off for four big runs, and as you look up at the scoreboard, you see the lead has been cut to just four runs, with Greensboro now hanging on to a 10-6 lead, and a mere four-run spread….Miliano got touched up for four runs, on four hits, and he hit a batter…

Cy Young Nielson came on to work the eighth and ninth innings on the hill for the Hoppers, and on this night, Nielson was just what the doctor ordered from the Grasshoppers bullpen…Nielson gives up 0 Runs, on 0 Hits, with a BB, and 4 huge K’s…

After Cy Young Nielson shut down the Bowling Green Hot Rods to close out this game, the Greensboro Grasshoppers were back in the win column again…Starting pitcher Po-Yu Chen picked up the win for the Hoppers, his first victory of the season…Chen worked five innings, allowing one run, on four hits, while he walked one batter, struck out six, he hit two batters, and gave up one home run…Very solid outing for Chen, and it was by far his best overall effort of the season….Dante Mendoza came on for one inning of work for the Hoppers, and Mendoza gave up one run, on three hits, with a BB, and two strikeouts…Mendoza struck out Bowling Green’s Brock Jones, to leave the bases loaded with Hot Rods, as he closed out the sixth inning…

For our Steak n Shake Players of the Game we go with pitchers Chen and Nielson, and for their offensive efforts, we recognize Mike Jarvis, Wyatt Hendrie, Will Matthiessen, and Tsung-Che Cheng…Cheng goes 2-4/Double/BB/2 Runs…Matthiessen was 1-2/Double/BB/3 RBI…Hendrie went 2-4/Double/HR/2 Runs/RBI…Jarvis 2-4/Double/HR/BB/3 Runs/2 RBI…We also need to throw a bone the way of Jase Bowen, who was 2-5/Run/2 RBI…

There it is and we can put a bow on this one, as the home team, found their way home, at home….And as Dorothy said, “There’s No Place Like Home”…..
