Final from Thursday night baseball at First National Bank Field:
Bowling Green Hot Rods 5, Greensboro Grasshoppers 2
WP:Ben Peoples(1-3)/LP:Bubba Chandler(2-2)/SV:Nate Dahle(2)

Hot Rods-5-13-1
Hoppers- 2- 7-1

Greensboro Grasshoppers(22-20)
Bowling Green Hot Rods(19-21)

This was pretty much Bowling Green’s game all night long, as the Grasshoppers trailed the Hot Rods, 5-0, going into the bottom of the ninth inning..It was at that point where Greensboro got a leadoff line drive single from Brenden Dixon, then with two outs, and now only one out to work with, the Hoppers catcher Wyatt Hendrie came up with a base hit single with his liner to center field, and with two men on base, and with two outs, and the home team still down 5-0, the Greensboro Grasshoppers Tsung-Che Cheng(Chang) came up with a two-out lined Triple to right field, and for Cheng(Chang) it was Bang, Bang, Bang with that three-base hit that broke up the Hot Rods’ shutout, and that big Triple from Cheng(Chang) pushed two runs across the plate, and instead of going home with a blank look on their face, the Hoppers were headed out on a Positive Note…

Like we were saying, this was like magic, it was like the Grasshoppers found some lightning in a bottle, as Cheng(Chang) goes Bang, Bang, Bang, and everyone went home knowing that there is no quit in these kids/young men….A very exciting finish to this game, after for most of the night, everyone was thinking about what might have been….

Cheng(Chang) was an easy choice for our Steak n Shake Player of the Game honors, as he went 2-4/Triple/BB, and he had those two huge RBI at the end of the contest…Cheng also made a super line drive grab at second base, and it was an outstanding defensive play, and it made you say Chang goes Bang, Bang, Bang then too…Tsung-Che was acting like a lone bright shining star on this Thursday night….The season is only a little over a month and a-half long, but Cheng(Chang) already has six(6) Triples on the year….

No other Hopper had more that two hits on this night, but we did see a beautiful bunt single off of the bat of Hudson Head…Head 1-4, Wyatt Hendrie 1-4/Run…Brenden Dixon 1-3/BB/Run…Mike Jarvis 1-4…Will Matthiessen 1-4…

As as team, the Hoppers drew four walks, but the Grasshoppers struck out 18 times in the game…Bowling Green came up empty 14 times, by going down by way of the K….

The Rods starting pitcher Ben Peoples was extremely tough, as he went the necessary five innings to get the win, while he gave up 0 runs, on just two hits, with 11 big K’s, and three walks….The Hot Rods reliever Antonio Jimenez struck out 7 Hoppers over his three and two-thirds innings of work…The Hoppers scored their two runs off of Jimenez, and gave up five of the Hoppers’ seven hits, and Cheng(Chang) smacked his Triple off of Jimenez…

Greensboro’s starter, Bubba Chandler, was able to go for four and two-thirds, where he allowed just two runs, on eight(8) Hot Rod hits, plus he walked one Rod and he struck out seven(7)…Overall steady night for Chandler, and this kid is still in the developmental stages…He could be real good, down the road, if he continues to put all of his necessary work in….One of the runs off of Chandler came on an error in left field, and the runner that scored, Carson Williams, had reached after being hit by a pitch…The other run off of Chandler came when Max Schnell his a solo home run to center field, in the fourth inning…

For the night, Greensboro left nine runners on base…Strong night at the plate for the Hot Rods’ Bob Seymour, as Bobby was 4-4/Double/BB/RBI…Seymour is now batting .367 for the season…BG’s Blake Robertson was 2-4, and Junior Caminero went 2-5…Caminero’s batting average is now at .352 for the year…The Rods got a solo home run from Nick Schnell, and Bowling Green scored one of their runs, when Eddy Yean balked Dru Baker home from third base…Baker also had an RBI double…Baker goes 1-3/Double/BB/Run/RBI…

Time for the Hoppers to regroup and get ready to win the game on Friday…Time to put on the Short Term Memory thinking caps for the next contest…The Grasshoppers’ Jackson Glenn is now on the injured list, with a slightly strained hamstring….Hopper’s pitching coach, Fernando Nieves is away for a few games this week, and the Pittsburgh Pirates have sent in Scott Ellerton to work with the pitchers, in Nieves absence…
