UNCG Baseball Drops SoCon Tournament Game to Wofford

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to Wofford in the second round of the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament presented by Holston Gases, at Fluor Field on Thursday afternoon.

Daniel Cerda was one of the two Spartans with at least one hit in the game, swinging 2-for-4 at the plate. Caleb Cozart went 1-for-1 with a double and RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wofford’s Ryan Galanie hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, giving the Terriers a 2-0 advantage. With one out and runners in scoring position, David Wiley flew out to right field scoring Dixon Black for a 3-0 lead.

The Terriers extended their lead to 5-0 with a two-run single from Marshall Toole in the bottom of the fifth.

Jake Wolf, who pitched 4.0 innings for the Spartans, kept the Terriers scoreless during the fourth and sixth innings.

Wiley homered to left center in the bottom of the seventh adding another run for Wofford for a 6-0 lead.

UNCG took advantage in the top of the ninth with two runners on, as Cozart hit his fourth double of the season scoring Mitchell Smith from second, cutting the deficit to five, 6-1.

With the win, Wofford will play No. 2 Mercer Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

UNCG will play the loser of game five, which is No. 1 Samford versus No. 4 ETSU in a must-win game. The Spartans will play Friday, May 26th with a first pitch at 9 a.m. at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.
