Final from Friday night at First National Bank Field, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 4, Bowling Green Hot Rods 3…10 Innings
WP:Cy Nielson(1-0)/LP:Kyle Whitten(0-2)

Hoppers- 4-7-1
Hot Rods-3-6-1

Greensboro Grasshoppers(23-20)
Bowling Green Hot Rods(19-22)

Steak n Shake Players of the Game were Mike Jarvis, who had the Game-Winning RBI, when he drove a ball to center field, and his fly ball with one out was deep enough to score the Hoppers’ ghost-runner Wyatt Hendrie from third base, and with that run, the Hoppers top the Hot Rods, 4-3 in 10 innings, and the win comes in walk-off fashion, in front of the Friday Night Fireworks crowd of 5,901…Jarvis a SNS Player of the Game, and the Winning Pitcher Cy Nielson joins Jarvis as another SNS POG, with Nielson working the ninth and tenth innings, giving up just one hit, with three big strikeouts…

Plus for good measure, and it does make for a good gesture, we also have Abrahan Gutierrez as one of our Steak n Shake Players of the Game…Gutierrez goes 3-4, with two Doubles, and he had one RBI…This was Abrahan’s first game back, as he returned from the injured list, and to see him get those two Doubles in his first at-bats back, well that was almost priceless…

And for what might have been the Defensive Effort of the Season, we saw the Hoppers’ first baseman, Brenden Dixon go into the first base dugout camera well trying to make a play on a foul ball popup, on the right side….Dixon had the ball for the foul ball out, but the ball became dislodged from his glove when he went tumbling over the barrier that leads into the first base dugout…Some kind of effort there by Dixon…

The Grasshoppers get the win to go 3-1 in this homestand vs. the Hot Rods, and with the weather forecasts, we’re not sure what is going to be coming in here on Saturday and Sunday…

In this, the Friday night game, the Hoppers fell behind real quick, when Bowling Green’s leadoff batter Dru Baker drew the walk to begin the game, and then he came around to score on an RBI single by the Rods’ Junior Caminero…It was 1-0 Rods early, but the Hoppers responded with a matching run in the bottom of the first, with Tsung-Che Cheng scoring after walking, and Cheng’s run, made it 1-1, and new ballgame….Cheng scored on Abrahan Gutierrez’ double to right field…

The Hoppers jumped on top, 3-1, when Sammy Siani and Maikol Escotto scored runs in the bottom of the second….Siani had singled, and Escotto doubled to reach, and then Siani came around on a ground ball by Wyatt Hendire, while Escotto crossed home plate, when Tres Gonzalez pushed a ground ball up the middle, for a single to center field…Hoppers now up, 3-1, and they would maintain this two-run lead until the top of the fourth inning, and that is when Willy Vasquez hit a line rope to left field for a two-run Home Run, scoring Willy and big Bob Seymour, and with that Vasquez rope, the game was now all tied up at 3-3…

The Hot Rods got their first run off of Hoppers’ starter for Friday, Jack Carey, and then the HR by Vasquez in the fourth, came off of once-starter, and now reliever, Valentin Linarez…Jack Carey got the start and worked two innings, and then Linarez came on and put in four innings…Dante Mendoza went for two innings on the hill for the Hoppers, as did the WP Cy Nielson….As a staff, the Grasshoppers struck out 13 Hot Rod batters, with the line of K’s going, Carey(2), Linarez(5), Mendoza(3), and Nielson(3)…Mendoza was steady, while Carey and Linarez got their work in, and both worked through jams, but the sharpest pitcher of the night, was by far, Cy Nielson….

For the plate work on Friday, the Jarvis SAC Fly RBI in the tenth was the game-changer/decider, but we saw Abrahan Gutierrez go 3-4/2 Doubles/RBI, plus Maikol Escotto was 2-4/Double/Run…Sammy Siani was 1-3/BB/Run…Tres Gonzalez was 1-4/BB/RBI…Wyatt Hendrie went 0-4/RBI/Game-Winning Run…Mike Jarvis goes 0-4/Game Winning RBI…Jarvis and Hendrie didn’t get a hit, but they were still major factors that led to the Grasshoppers winning this game…

Dru Baker was 1-3/2 BB’s/Run for the Rods…BG’s Brock Jones went 1-4…The Rods’ Junior Caminero goes 2-4/RBI, and his RBI was his 32nd of the season…Big Bob Seymour went 1-4/Run…The Rods’ big blow came from Willy Vasquez who had that two-run HR, and he was 1-4/HR/2 RBI…#’s 7, 8, and 9 in the Rods’ batting order went a combined 0-9 with a BB, and a HBP…

Bowling Green’s starting pitcher Roel Garcia III worked five innings, allowing three runs, on six hits, with one walk, and six strikeouts…Garcia gave up those three runs, but overall, he was effective, and for the most part, he did limit the damage…

The real telling damage came in that bottom of the tenth inning, when Mike Jarvis sent that fly ball into center field, scoring Wyatt Hendrie from third base to end and win the game, sending all of the Hoppers faithful fans home happy, and that was right after they took in a Memorial Day Weekend Fireworks show too….Give it up to Mike Jarvis on Friday, he made a mess of people smile, as they were leaving the ballyard…
