UNCG’s Nick Lyerly Named to PING All-Region Men’s Golf Team

NORMAN, Okla. — Graduate student Nick Lyerly of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf team has been named to the Division I PING All-East Region Team after his tremendous contributions to the Spartans during 2022-23 season, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Lyerly is among a selection of national players across six regions that earned all-region honors in 2023. This is his third All-Region accolade during his career in the Blue & Gold. Lyerly was one of five from the Southern Conference (SoCon) recognized by the GCAA.

This mention comes after Lyerly earned a spot on the SoCon All-Conference Team, for his fourth-career conference recognition. He had a career-best 70.45 stroke average in 33 rounds of play in the season. In addition, Lyerly ended the regular season with three top-five finishes, five top-10 finishes and eight top-15 finishes.

At UNCG’s own Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in February, Lyerly was the individual champion shooting 12-under-par (204) at Hammock Creek Golf Course in Palm City, Florida. He shot one-under par (71) on the opening round, and then posted a career-low round of eight-under-par (64) during round two. He concluded the collegiate three-under-par (69) in the final round to capture his eighth-career individual title.

The native of Salisbury, N.C. led the Spartans to finish fifth overall at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship and finished with the most pars overall in the tournament with 42.

The Spartans closed out the season at the NCAA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nevada. UNCG finished in ninth place overall for the team’s best finish since the 2013-14 season. At the NCAA Regionals, Lyerly tied his career best with an eight-under-par (64) round on the last day of competition. In his fourth NCAA Regional appearance, Lyerly placed ninth in the field for his best finish at this level.
