Final from Wednesday night, at First National Bank Field, Home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 5, Wilmington Blue Rocks 4
WP:Dante Mendoza(3-1)/LP:Todd Peterson(1-3)
Hoppers- 5-5-0 Blue Rocks-4-5-0
Greensboro Grasshoppers(28-23)
Wilmington Blue Rocks(25-27)
Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win Again, when Tsung-Che Cheng(Chang) connects on a Double to right field, and he drives in Tres Gonzalez with the Game-Winning Walk-Off Run, as the Hoppers win in the bottom of the ninth inning, 5-4, over the Wilmington Blue Rocks…
Cheng came up with the big Walk-Off Game Winner, and he earned his Steak n Shake Player of the Game Award…Also Steak n Shake honors going out tonight to Eli Wilson, whose Three-Run home run in the sixth inning tied the game up at 4-4…Wilson and Cheng(Chang) both going BANG, BANG, BANG, on Tuesday night…
Cheng(Chang) with his Double, and Wilson with his homer…The Hoppers also got a key solo HR to right field, by Luke Brown, and when Brown went downtown, his early home run sent the Hoppers to a 1-0 lead, all the way back in the third inning…
Overall the Grasshoppers duplicated their hit total from Tuesday night, as the Hoppers came up with five hits…Cheng went 1-4, with his game-winning Double, and a walk…Tres Gonzalez was 1-3, with two walks, and his game-winning run…Shawn Ross went 0-2/2 BB’s, and a run…Will Matthiessen was 1-4/Run…Eli Wilson hit that big three-run HR, making him 1-2/2 BB’s/Run/3 RBI…Luke Brown goes 1-3/HR/BB…
As for the five Wilmington Blue Rock hits, their Jacob Young was 2-4…Will Frizell went 0-3/BB/Run…Jeremy De La Rosa goes 1-4/Double…Viandel Pena went 0-3/BB/Run…Matt Suggs with a 1-4 night/Double/2 RBI/Run…Leandro Emiliano 1-3/HR/2 RBI…
One of those hang in there and be patient wins for the Hoppers on this night…Up 1-0, and thinking can they hang on and win another real close one, then the Hoppers fell behind 4-1 in the fourth inning, but that was just before Eli Wilson hit his game-tying HR, to make the score, 4-4 in the sixth inning…Then the Grasshoppers got the BANG-BANG double from Cheng, scoring Gonzalez with the game winning Walk-Off Winner….
A nice night, and great way to send the fans home…
A few more thoughts on this game coming up later on…Cheng(Chang) and Wilson, saying if there is a Will, there is a Way…
Time to also give on of those Steak n Shake Player of the Game awards to the Greensboro Grasshoppers bullpen…For the second straight night, the bullpen was outstanding….After the Hoppers starter Bubba Chandler goes 3 2/3’s innings, allowing the four Blue Rock runs, on four Rock hits, with two walks, and six strikeouts, plus the one HR from the Rocks’ Leandro Emiliani, well after Chandler, the Hoppers’ pen gave up just one more Rock hit, and that hit came off of Michell Miliano, and the rest of the way the pen allows No Runs, on No Hits, with not even one walk, that’s right No Walks, and the pen struck out seven Blue Rock batters…
From the fifth inning on, the Wilmington Blue Rocks had just two base runners, and one of those runners was the Rock’s Jared McKenzie, and he reached first base in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch from Mitchell Miller…Just two base runners for the Rocks, over the last five innings of the game….The single from Jacob Young off of Miliano, and the HBP by Miller, which allowed McKenzie to reach first…Just the two runners over the last five innings of that game, that just shows how tough the bullpen really was, on Wednesday night…
The pen line ran like this, with Michell Miliano going 1 1/3 innings, allowing 0 Runs, on just one hit, with 0 BB’s and 3 K’s…One inning for Eddy Yean who gave up 0 Runs, on 0 Hits, with 0 BB’s/1 K…Logan Hoffman works one inning with 0 Runs/0 Hits/0 BB’s/1 K…Mitchell Miller pitched one inning, with 0 Runs/0 Hits/0 BB’s/0 K’s….Then Dante Mendoza wrapped things up working one inning, with 0 Runs/0 Hits/0 BB’s/2 K’s, and Mendoza leaves out the Winning Pitcher…The Hoppers’ bullpen again for stellar, with the O BB’s, and K’s….As a pitching staff, the Greensboro Grasshoppers with 13 K’s, and just two walks, on the night…..
