Final from Saturday night, at First National Bank Field, in downtown Greensboro:
Wilmington Blue Rocks 8, Greensboro Grasshoppers 4
WP:Kyle Luckham(1-0)/LP:Po-Yu Chen(2-4)

Blue Rocks:8-9-1
Hoppers: 4-6-1

Greensboro Grasshoppers(30-24)
Wilmington Blue Rocks(26-29)

The Rocks finally got rolling on Saturday night, at First National Bank/FNB Field, and when they did, they rolled past the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 8-4…First loss this week for the Gate City nine, and their five-game winning streak is a thing of the past, and with the win, the Rocks will avoid the sweep this week, but the Grasshoppers can still go 5-1 in this series, with a win on Sunday Fun Day/Family Fun Day at FNB Field…

On Saturday evening there were 7,177 fans at the old ball yard on Bellemeade Street, and they sure enjoyed the Spectacular Fireworks Show which came at the conclusion of tonight’s contest, but they missed out on another Hoppers victory, and it looked like the Hoppers might be ready to get rolling again…The Hoppers got a solo HR from Big Will Matthiessen, and the Grasshoppers took a 1-0 lead, but their lead would be short-lived, as the Rocks got on a roll themselves when their DH Will Frizzell cranked out a long ball to right field, and the next thing you know, we are tied up at 1-1 in the top of the second inning…

Matthiessen’s home run was his third in the past three days, and all of his shots have been of the solo HR variety…Well Will was working, but the Rocks were working too, and the Rocks on this night, they kept up the pressure, as they found two more runs in the fourth inning, and now it was Rocks 3, Hoppers 1…The Rocks got a Double from their newcomer Brady House, plus a walk to Jose Sanchez, and Matt Suggs brought both Sanchez and House home with his two RBI single…Interesting to see a House coming home…

Wilmington was warming, and the Rocks really got rolling, and they went to work looking to blow this game open by posting five huge runs in the sixth inning…The Rocks posted five runs in the sixth, and they grabbed a hold of an 8-1 lead, and now everything was going the way of the Rocks…

The Hoppers did respond with a run in the sixth, a run in the eighth, and one more run in the ninth…That made the final score, Blue Rocks 8, Grasshoppers 4…..

This was not the Hoppers night, but let’s look at their offense, with the boys getting six hits on the evening…But first, let me tell you this, and any of the 7,177 fans will back me up on this one…Tres Gonzalez made what could be the defensive Play of the Year at FNB Field…He caught a fly to left field off of the bat of Jeremy De La Rosa, and as Gonzo caught the ball he banged up against the Front Street Capital sign in left, but he didn’t run into the sign/wall, he almost knocked himself out, and he did knock himself slap down to the ground, but Gonzalez did not let the ball come loose from his glove…He held on it was uno, dos, Tres, quatro, cinco, seis, siete, ochon, nueve, diaz….A Tres Gonzalez Top Ten Play of the Day, maybe the month, and maybe for the year….
(Another Steak n Shake Player of the Game honor going out to Tre for his big play in left field.)

Man, what a play by Tres…Man, what a play by Tre…What do you say, the Play of the Day??? I say OK…Wow, that was a good one right there…And back on the offensive end, Gonzalez went 1-5/Run…Tsung-Che Cheng was 1-4/Triple and his Triple was his eighth of the season…Will Matthiessen goes 2-3/HR/BB/3 RBI…Matthiessen is our solo Steak n Shake Player of the Game for this game…Eli Wilson was 1-4…Shawn Ross was 0-3/BB/Run…Brenden Dixon went 0-3/BB…Maikol Escotto was 1-3/BB…

For the Hoppers on the hill, Po-Yu Chen got the call to start the game, and worked five innings, allowing three runs, on five hits, with two walks, and six strikeouts, and he gave up one home run…Not a bad start by Chen, but he just needed some run support…Also throwing for the Hoppers on Saturday were Logan Hoffman, Jake Stevenson, Jack Carey, and Santiago Florez…Jake, Jack, and Santiago thrived and survived, giving up 0 runs, on 0 hits, with 0 BB’s and they combined to strike out four Rocks…Logan Hoffman struggled giving up 5 runs, on 4 hits…

For the Rocks, Jacob Young went 1-5, Jared McKenzie was 1-4/SAC Fly RBI, newcomer Brady House, playing his first game for the Rocks goes 2-5/Double/Run…Will Frizzell was 1-4/HR/HBP/2 Runs, Jose Sanchez went 1-3/BB/ 2 Runs, Jeremy De La Rosa goes 1-3/BB/Run/RBI, Matt Suggs was 2-3/Double/HBP/Run/2 RBI, TJ White went 0-4/Run, Viandel Pena was 1-4….

Very productive night at the plate for the Wilmington Blue Rocks…
