Despite a lukewarm market for running backs, former Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook has set a high bar in terms of what kind of contract he’s looking for from his next team.

As Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported, Cook is seeking a deal that will pay him close to the $10.4 million base salary he was set to make this season in Minnesota — a report that was seemingly backed up by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“Dalvin Cook is not looking to sign a $4 million to $5 million contract,” Pelissero said on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “That is not going to happen. This is going to be a significant contract.”

Pelissero also confirmed that Cook is open to a one-year deal as much as he is a multi-year contract. However, his expectation of a base salary in the eight figures is likely a bit of a pipe dream.

Teams have been reluctant to dish out big-money deals to running backs over the last few years, especially ones who are in their mid- to late-20s. This year’s top free-agent running backs, Miles Sanders and David Montgomery, signed contracts that averaged $6.25 million and $6 million per season, respectively, and no other free-agent RB signed for more than $4 million per season.

Although Cook does want to get paid like a top running back, he also confirmed Tuesday on “The Rich Eisen Show” that money won’t be the only driving factor in where he ends up next season.

“I want the value,” Cook said. “I want somebody who values Dalvin Cook. I want somebody that wants me to be there and give me the ball. I just want to go into the right situation so I can just go help somebody win. Like you said, the money is going to come. If you play good, they are going to pay you. I just want to go somewhere where it feels like it’s home and help somebody win and just go be me.”
