Hoppers fall in the first game of the Second Half of the 2023 season…The Dash jumped out in front early, by posting three runs in the top of the first inning, and all three of those runs came in to score for WS with two outs..Hoppers starter Eddy Yean got the first two batters he faced, but then the Dash jumped on him for those three runs…The Dash then went up 4-0 with another run in the second inning, and that run came when Keegan Fish crossed the plate for the Dash on a SAC Fly by the Dash’ Loidel Chapelli..The Hoppers made it 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning, on a solo HR from Maikol Escotto…In the fourth inning, the Grasshoppers cut the lead down to 4-2, after another HR, this another solo home run coming from Jase Bowen…Bowen with HR #15 for the season, and his RBI total climbed to 54…
Dash lead 4-2, until they got a two-run homer from Wilfred Veras, and his shot went out to right field, and also brought in DJ Gladney to score, along with Veras…HR #6 and RBI #43 and 44 for Veras…Now the Dash lead has swelled up to 6-2, in favor of Winston-Salem, in the top of the fifth inning….The Grasshoppers countered with a three-run HR by Brenden Dixon in the bottom of the fifth inning, and it scored Dixon, Wyatt Hendrie, and Maikol Escotto..The new score was Dash 6, Grasshoppers 5, and that would be your final score on Friday night, at First National Bank Field…
Dash take Game Four this week, 6-5, and now the Hoppers are in front 3-1, in this weekly Six-Game Series…For the season, the Hoppers and Dash are deadlocked at 8 games each…
Maikol Escotto led the Hopper hitters going 4-4, with his HR, 2 runs, the one RBI, and a Stolen Base…Jase Bowen going 1-4, with his HR, while Brenden Dixon goes 1-4, with his three-run HR…Hoppers Tres Gonzalez went 1-4, Jackson Glenn was 1-4, Shawn Ross was 1-4, Ernny Ordonez goes 1-4, Wyatt Hendrie went 1-4/Run…And as talked about above Escotto 4-4/HR/2 Runs/SB, Dixon 1-4/HR/3 RBI, Bowen 1-4/HR….You have to think if they need an outfielder at Double A Altoona, that Bowen would be going/headed up that way, to the next level…Tsung-Che Cheng, Anthony Solometo, Abrahan Gutierrez and Braxton Ashcraft, just a few Hoppers that have moved up to Double Altoona in recent days….
Escotto, Bowen and Dixon with Steak n Shake Player of the Game nods, while we have another SNS POG for Hoppers pitcher, Dante Mendoza..Mendoza goes two innings, allowing no runs, on no hits, with two walks and four strikeouts, in his relief duties…
One key pitching note that caught our attention was the fact that the Greensboro Grasshoppers struck out 12 times on the night, but they drews NO walks…The Dash walked four times, and struck out 9 times…From the Dash pitching staff of McCullough, Vannelle, Palisch, and Stivors it was No Walks, and 12 K’s….That will take some of the starch out of the Hoppers shirts/jerseys…

Dash Hold Off Grasshoppers, 6-5
Early offense enough to take game four
GREENSBORO, NC – After the Winston-Salem Dash missed out on winning the first half by half a game, in game one of the second half, Winston-Salem was fast out of the gates. Following an early four spot across the first two frames, the Dash held on to take down the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 6-5, Friday night at First National Bank Field in front of 4,829 fans.
Winston-Salem (35-29) jumped out to a quick lead plating three runs in the top of the first. Wes Kath opened the scoring on an RBI single to right plating a run and giving the Dash the lead. Winston-Salem found another run on a double steal bringing home Wilfred Veras giving Winston-Salem an early 2-0 lead. Two runs weren’t enough in the first. Chris Lanzilli laced a single into left bringing home Kath pushing Winston-Salem ahead 3-0 after half an inning.
Greensboro (36-29) went down in order in the first against Dash starter Connor McCullough and Winston-Salem wanted more in the second. Loidel Chapelli made it a 4-0 game on a sacrifice fly, and McCullough worked around a pair of singles keeping the four-run advantage.
The Grasshoppers started chipping away though in the bottom of the third. Maikol Escotto smacked a longball to left cutting the lead to three, 4-1. In the fourth, Jase Bowen made it a two-run game on a homer to right, before Winston-Salem bought insurance.
In the top of the fifth with a runner on, Veras launched his sixth round tripper on the season to right, building the advantage back to four 6-2. Winston-Salem needed both runs as in the bottom half of the inning, Brenden Dixon cut the lead to one on a three-run homer to right, making it 6-5.
McCullough’s day would be over after five innings allowing five runs on eight hits and punching out six. Winston-Salem went to the bullpen and Vince Vanelle was the first one in making his debut with the Dash this season.
The right hander dazzled across two scoreless frames, allowing only one hit and striking out three holding the one run lead. In the eighth, southpaw Jake Palisch took over on the hill and worked a scoreless inning, sending it to the ninth, 6-5.
In the save situation, Guillermo Quiroz called upon his closer Tristan Stivors for the final three outs. The Texas State product punched out the first two he saw before a single put the tying run aboard, but Stivors induced a ground out from Dixon to close out the 6-5 win over Greensboro in game four.
McCullough picked up his first win in High-A while Greensboro starter Eddy Yean was tabbed with the loss, with Stivors notching his sixth save on the campaign.
The Dash and Grasshoppers meet for game five of six on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from First National Bank Field.
