Our Talk/Interview with Coach Chuck Doak, new Head Football Coach at High Point Central HS:How did this happen???

Talking to tonight to Coach Chuck Doak, the new head football coach at High Point Central High School…

Here is how it went, here are our questions for Coach Doak, and his answers for us….

1)How did this coaching change come about?
Coach Doak:Coach Doak told us he left Southwest Guilford High School for HP Central HS, when Coach Sheffield at HP Central told him he needed a Defensive Coordinator…Coach Doak came over to Central about a month ago, and was there working with the HP Central players with their off-season workouts…Coach Doak was still at SWG teaching during the day, but he was working with the HP Central players after school…About a week or so ago, HP Central head coach Jacob Sheffield decided he was going to move back to Trinity, and the head football job at HP Central came open…Coach Chuck Doak was the interim head coach for HP Central for about a week, and then he locked down the HP Central head football job…

2)You never coached a game as the High Point Central assistant head football coach, and now you are the head coach, how does that feel??
Coach Doak:I am really excited….This is like a brand new challenge for me…Some of the challenges had become a bit stale, but this new job has brought the Fire back, this is a brand new, and great challenge, and it is exciting…

3)Tough road ahead, HP Central was (1-9) last season, and (1-6) in the conference, what do you know about your current Bison players???
Coach Doak:Hard-working group of young men, with lots of sophomores and juniors, not many seniors…This is really one of the most coachable bunch of kids that I have been around…These young men are wanting and willing to learn, and they want to win…We look forward to working with this group of Bison…

4)What does your coaching window look like, how many more years will we see you coaching high school football????
Coach Doak:We will Go until we get it back like it used to be here at High Point Central HS…Back when Gary Whitman was here, Todd Staley was here, Coach Wayne Jones and the early days when he was here…I will stay until we can, “Bring the Bison Back”…..

5)What brought you to HP Central in the first place?????
(And what about knowing High Point Central athletic director, Mike Cook?)
Coach Doak:I was looking for a new Challenge…As a coach, there comes a time when you need that new Challenge, and you need to get the blood boiling again…This is the right Challenge for me, right now…
And on Coach Mike Cook, the Bison’s Athletic Director, I have known him for around 25 years, going back to the late 1990’s…When I was the baseball coach at Lexington High School, and Coach Cook was the head baseball coach here at HP Central HS, we used to play each other in baseball every year…We go way back….
