Was talking to Bill Hass today, and Bill the former Bill on Baseball writer for the Greensboro Grasshoppers…Bill also covered the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Greensboro Bats and the Greensboro Hornets for the local Greensboro News and Record newspaper..
Bill and I were conversing about the Perfect Game delivered last night, by former Greensboro Grasshopper, Domingo German…German tossed his Perfect Game for the New York Yankees..
Well Domingo German was (9-3) with his 2.48 ERA for the Hoppers back in 2014…And on the same Hoppers staff that 2014 season was Jarlin Garcia, another Hoppers stud pitcher the Pirates….Sounded like Harlin Garcia, and he and German were two very talented young pitchers…Garcia was (10-5) with a 4.38 ERA for the Hoppers here in 2014…And now, currently Garia is with the Pittsburgh Pirates…He is on the 60-Day injured list…
Andy Haines was with the Hoppers and now with the Pirates in 2023 as their hitting coach, with Andy coaching the Grasshoppers to the SAL crown back in 2011, and Derek Shelton the Pittsburgh Pirates skipper here in 2023, was with the Greensboro Hornets as a catcher back in 1993..Shelton batted .291 with 1 HR and 6 RBI, over 23 games played for the Greensboro Hornets back in 1993…
Interesting that Gaby Sanchez was with the Hoppers and then with the Pirates for awhile back in the day..
And then you add in Jared Triolo, Nick Gonzales, Henry Davis, Carmen Mlodzinski and others and you have a near boat-load of former Greensboro Grasshoppers with the Pittsburgh Pirates this season…
