Need clean shirts for the Greensboro Grasshoppers next home stand, which begins tomorrow, on the Fourth of July…It will be a Six-Game homestand vs. the Aberdeen IronBirds, and when the games are in town, I will be there broadcasting those games, and I need to get my Shirt Rotation ready for that six-game home stand….
Each day brings out a new clean shirt….Tuesday you have the series-opening starting shirt, and then Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, each shirt will get its shot in the rotation…
I always try and get the shirts ready again for the homestand, the day before the new Greensboro Grasshoppers homestand begins…
So, this morning, I sort of remembered at the last minute, that I need to get my shirts to cleaners…Get there in there before 9am, and you have them back, later on that same day, sometime after 5pm…
Well, I drive up to my regular dry cleaners, and they were CLOSED!!!!! Sign in the window said Closed on Monday and Tuesday for the Fourth of July Holiday…
Strike One, and now time to head back up the street, and see if the other dry cleaners is Open…
Pull in the driveway of the next cleaners, and the same sign, as I had seen earlier…Closed on Monday and Tuesday for the Fourth of July Holiday…
Strike Two, and now it is looking like the shirts may have to clean themselves….
A few minutes later, as I was heading down the Battleground Avenue, another thought/idea popped in my head…I know of another place heading into the midtown area, that dry cleans shirts…Let me give them a try….
Got to the next Cleaners on my list, and they not have a sign on the door…The gentleman who runs the place, just told me Straight Up, that we will be doing NO Dry Cleaning today(Monday), or tomorrow on the Fourth of July(Tuesday), due to the Holiday….
Strike Three, and I am out, Right???
I was almost out, and I felt like I should be getting the heck out of town…But, as I was driving back up Battleground Avenue, on my way home, out of the corner of my eye, I saw one more of Dry Cleaning business, and they were OPEN!!!!!
There had been a conspiracy going to make sure that I did not have Clean Shirts, and I was about to destroy that Conspiracy Theory….
Grabbed my shirts, well not all of them….I grabbed five of them, and decided I would have to go to the bullpen on the last day of the baseball homestand, and make one of those shirts work two games in the upcoming series….I just had the feeling that I could get out of this fix, at this last Dry Cleaners, that was actually OPEN, but boy, let me tell you something, I was in for a real surprise…
The lady at the counter said I could get my five shirts cleaned and have them all back today/Monday…I told this nice lady that was the best news I had heard all day, and that I was going to nominate her Dry Cleaning Plant for the Pro Baseball Cleaned Shirts Hall of Fame, in Cleanersville, South Dakota…
And this Monday Moaning Story was about to all end, with one of those Perfect Happy Fourth of July endings…
Then I got the news all frugal shoppers never want to hear…
Not that phrase, “The Plane, The Plane, The Plane”, but that line of demarcation that gives us, “The Price, The Price, The Price”…
And what was the price to clean Five Shirts, and have them back today…Thirty-Five Dollars and fifty-nine cents…
Yes, that is what I call Strike Four…
I was OUT OF THERE in no time flat, and I will find a way to clean one shirt for Tuesday, and then it will be back to the bullpen, after that…
YES, I was Taken to the Cleaners, while Taking my clothes to the Cleaners, for the Fourth of July Holiday…..
