WP:Dante Mendoza(4-2)/LP:Carson Carter(2-3)
Hoppers-5-8- 1 'Birds- 4-10-1
Greensboro Grasshoppers(39-38)
Aberdeen IronBirds(40-37)
Hoppers Game-Winner came from Luke Brown, as Brown sent a lined base hit into center field, scoring Jase Bowen with the game-tying run, and Ernny Ordonez followed Bowen to the plate, scoring the Game-Winning Walk-Off run, and it was time to start to “Write It Down, and Paint the Town Brown”…Luke Brown the Steak n Shake Player of the Game for his two-run Game Winner, and for his solo HR to right field, and for his running/sliding catch on defense in right field, and for his running and disappearing catch, as he went all the way into the right field corner on defense, and came up with a catch that would make Harry Houdini proud…Brown was the man on this Friday night, with his two outstanding defensive plays, and with his work at the plate, scoring Bowen to tie, and Ordonez to win it, and for his HR that left the yard…A busy night for the young man from Bowling Green, Kentucky…This was the first night this week that Brown was in the Hoppers’ lineup, and he made the most of his game time…
Luke Brown was seen by pepole from all over town, as the 5,449 fans that came to this game were chanting Brown’s name loud and proud, as they were seen leaving the stadium, after the Fireworks Show was over…
Also a solid game for Hoppers’ newcomer Travis Swaggerty, who drew two walks, plus he Tripled in his second at-bat, and ended up driving in one run, and scoring one run…Swaggerty injured his right shoulder while playing for the Triple A Indianapolis Indians back in 2021 and he has been battling to get it all back to normal since then…This season he has been suffering from severe migrane headaches that have been holding him back..He is now on his way back up the MILB ladder, hoping the MLB rungs of that ladder, are not too far away…Swaggerty’s wife was bitten by racoon back in early June, after which she was diagnosed with a rare blood disease…In 2018 Swaggerty’s wife Peyton was battling thyroid cancer….So I guess you can see that in 2023, the Swaggerty’s just want life to get back to some sense of normalcy…
The Grasshoppers’ Tres Gonzalez had another strong night at the plate, going 3-5/HR/RBI/Run…Jase Bowen came up with his 62nd RBI on Friday night, while he went 1-5/Run/RBI…Eli Wilson goes 1-3/Double/BB…Shawn Ross going 0-3/2 BB’s…Luke Brown, who we touched on some above, was 2-5/HR/3 RBI…When Brown came up with his hits, they were HUGE…He gets the Walk-Off Game Winner….Time to Write it Down, and Paint the Town Brown…
The top hitter in the game for the Aberdeen IronBirds was Dylan Beavers, with Beavers 2-4/HR/BB/3 RBI…Beavers was cutting into the ball so hard, I thought he might end up getting his bat sawed off in his hands…
The Greensboro Grasshoppers starting pitcher Thomas Harrington went five innings, allowing just 1 run, on five hits, with 0 BB’s and 5 K’s…The Greensboro winning pitcher Dante Mendoza goes two innings, and Mendoza gave up 1 run, on 3 hits, with 1 BB and 4 K’s…The Hoppers pitching staff for this game, with Harrington, Michell Miliano, and Mendoza only gave up three walks in the contest, while the ‘Birds pitching staff walked 7 Hoppers…
The IronBirds starting pitcher, Kyle Virbitsky, went 4 2/3’s innings, allowing 2 runs, on 5 hits, with 3 BB’s/5 K’s, and he/Virbitsky, gave up one home run..The losing pitcher for the ‘Birds, Carson Carter, goes an Inning and two-thirds, giving up two runs, on one hit…Big hit came from the Hoppers’ Luke Brown…Game-Winner…Carter walked one Hopper and he struck out two…A key note on the base hit by Luke Brown that won the baseball game, well that Game-Winning hit from Luke Brown came with two outs, and there was a real fog on the bases, since the FOG means the bases were Full of Grasshoppers….Jase Bowen scored the game-tying run for the Grasshoppers, as the Hoppers’ ghost runner…Ernny Ordonez came to the plate and scored on Brown’s go-round, and with both Bowen and Ordonez scoring, The Hoppers were able to take home, and keep their numbers to a minimum.
