West Virginia University president Gordon Gee says WVU has moved on from Bob Huggins. Gee opened up about his true feelings about Huggins and everything that led up to the end of his time as head coach of the Mountaineers.

While talking with Hoppy Kercheval on the MetroNews “Talkline” show Monday morning, Gee was asked if he could envision any scenario that could lead to Huggins coaching West Virginia ever again. “No,” Gee said. “No. None.”

Gee then elaborated more on the current focus of the basketball program and why moving on from Huggins is necessary.

“We’re now focused on Coach Eilert (WVU interim head coach Josh Eilert). In other words, we have moved on,” said Gee. “I hope that Coach Huggins will move on with his life too and take good care of himself and his family.”

Even though Gee obviously has no interest in working with Huggins again, WVU’s president did express his admiration and appreciation for the Basketball Hall of Famer.

“I am a great admirer of Coach (Huggins) in so many different ways, he’s done many good things for our state and for our university, so that’s the reason I’m so immensely disappointed in him. For the fact he was given a second chance and just did not perform at the level that he should,” Gee said.

Without getting into detail, Gee also said Huggins failed to follow the rules placed upon him as a punishment after using an anti-gay slur during a radio appearance in May. Just weeks later, Huggins was arrested for a DUI in Pittsburgh. WVU says Huggins resigned days later, although he now disputes the legitimacy of his resignation and is threatening a legal battle with the school.
