The Greensboro Grasshoppers got a Grand Slam home run, and five RBI from their second baseman Termarr Johnson, while Brenden Dixon came up with a three-run HR, plus Dixon connected for a Triple….Johnson 2-4/HR/BB/5 RBI…Dixon 2-3/HR/Triple/BB/3 RBI…

Then you had the Hoppers’ pitching staff, with three innnings each from J.P. Massey, Santiago Florez, and Jaycob Deese…The work of these three pitchers over the Second thru the Seventh Innings was Perfect…Over those six innings, the staff gave up No Runs, No Hits, No Walks, and they struck out six Bowling Green batters over those six frames….Overall the Hopper pitchers tossed a two-hitter on Saturday night, with the Rods’ Shane Sasaki leading off the game with a Double, and later scoring on a ground out, in the first inning, and then Bowling Green got a leadoff Double from Nick Schnell in the eighth inning…A two-hitter and six straight innings of Perfect Baseball, and then Greensboro got Bowling Green hitters three-up/three-down, to close out the game, in the top of the ninth inning….

Some kind of game tonight from Termarr Johnson and Brenden Dixon, and some kind of games from J.P. Massey, Santiago Florez, and Jaycob Deese….

Turned out to be another huge Hoppers victory, and two of the Hoppers best players, Jase Bowen and Jack Brannigan were resting, and not in the lineup tonight…

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 9-1 on Saturday, August 19. The Grasshoppers improved to 24-22 in the second half of the season while the Hot Rods fell to 27-19 as Greensboro outhit Bowling Green 10-2.

Leading at the plate for the Grasshoppers was infielder Brenden Dixon as he went 2-3 with a home run, a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored. Following close behind was infielder Termarr Johnson as he went 2-4 with a home run, five RBI, and one run scored.

Starting on the mound for Greensboro was righthanded pitcher J.P. Massey as he tallied four strikeouts and gave up one hit and one earned run on three innings of work. Santiago Florez recorded the win for the Grasshoppers and improved to 5-2 on the season.

JJ Goss took the loss for the Hot Rods and fell to 5-5 on the season.

The Grasshoppers finish up their home series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods tomorrow Sunday, August 20, at 2:00 PM. Cook Fans Five in High-A Debut, Hot Rods Fall 9-1 in Greensboro

Greensboro, North Carolina – Alex Cook struck out five over a career-high 3.1 innings during his High-A debut, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-19, 58-49) dropped their third straight game in a 9-1 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers (24-22, 60-50) on Saturday from First National Bank Field.

Bowling Green began the scoring in the top of the first against Greensboro starter J.P. Massey. Shane Sasaki led off with a double and moved up to third on a groundout. Dominic Keegan grounded out to third, scoring Sasaki to put the Hot Rods up 1-0.

The Grasshoppers answered back with five runs off Hot Rods starter J.J. Goss in the bottom of the second, capped off with a grand slam by Termarr Johnson. Greensboro went up 9-1 with four more runs against Goss in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a three-run homer from Brenden Dixon.

The Hot Rods went scoreless the rest of the way, falling by a final score of 9-1.

Santiago Florez (5-2) earned the win, striking out three over 3.0 perfect frames. Goss (5-5) took the loss, letting up nine runs on 10 hits, two walks, and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings. Jaycob Deese (1) notched the save, allowing a hit and striking out four over 3.0 shutout innings.

The Hot Rods and the Grasshoppers play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with first pitch set for 1:00 PM CT. Bowling Green is set to start RHP Duncan Davitt (3-2, 3.26), while RHP Po-Yu Chen toes the slab for Greensboro.
