Greensboro Grasshoppers(62-50)
Rome Braves(54-61)
In the top of the fourth inning, Jack Brannigan homered for the Hoppers on a fly ball to left field, scoring Brannigan and Tres Gonzalez…That made it 2-0 Greensboro Grasshoppers, and that score stood up, and that is how the ballgame ended…Hoppers over the Braves, 2-0…The Hoppers had a mere five hits, and Jack Brannigan had two of the five hits, as he went 2-4/HR/Run/2 RBI…Tres Gonzalez was 1-3/BB/Run…Luke Brown and Josiah Sightler both went 1-3 for the Grasshoppers….Termarr Johnson went 0-2/2 BB’s…
Starting pitcher Bubba Chandler goes 7 strong innings, with 0 runs, on four hits, with 0 BB’s and 6 K’s…Very solid outing for Chandler, a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia…The Hoppers got perfect pitching from reliever Valentin Linarez, who worked two innings out of the Greensboro bullpen, allowing 0 runs/0 hits/0 BB’s, with 3 K’s…
Pitching was a big part of this Greensboro Grasshoppers win on Tuesday night…Pitching and the Big Bat of Jack Brannigan….Jack Brannigan and Bubba Chandler would be our Steak n Shake Players of the Game…Brannigan now with 11 HR/29 RBI in his time with the Greensboro Grasshoppers…His batting average sits at .313…And that is in 25 games with the Hoppers for Brannigan…With Bradenton, in 49 games it was 7 HR/17 RBI..253 batting average…Brannigan bringing that Big Bat to town…And Bubba Chandler, now with 8 wins, probably two more starts left, and a chance to get to 10 wins on the season…
The Greensboro Grasshoppers are now at (26-22), still two and a-half games out of first place in the second half of the SALLY North….

Niekro Punches Out Seven In Series Opener
from www.milb.com/romebraves/
ROME, GA – After winning four straight to take their second consecutive series victory, the Rome Braves sent right-hander JJ Niekro to the mound to welcome the Greensboro Grasshoppers to town.
In his first start since August 4th, Niekro would get the ball rolling early as he struck out the first two batters he faced while retiring the side in order. Niekro would follow up his spotless first inning by striking out the side in the second inning.
Niekro would face the minimum through two and a third before Luke Brown would single to get Greensboro in the hit column. Niekro’s one blemish on the night would be a Jack Brannigan home run to put the ‘Hoppers on the board two runs to none. Niekro would finish the night with a season-high seven strikeouts over five innings.
Despite four scoreless innings from Patrick Halligan and Jonathan Hughes out of the bullpen, Greensboro would only need two runs to take the series opener thanks to a dominant outing from Peach State native Bubba Chandler.
Chandler, a product of North Oconee High School, would hurl seven shutout innings against the R-Braves on Tuesday night while fanning six.
Drake Baldwin would lead Rome in hits in the series opener after going two for four to raise is season batting average to .247.
The Braves and Grasshoppers will continue the six game slate on Wednesday night with a 7:00pm first pitch.
