Women’s Soccer Falls to High Point in Non-Conference Game
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team dropped a non-conference battle to Triad foe High Point, 1-0 on Wednesday evening at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans started the game off by keeping possession in their attacking zone for most of the first half. UNCG’s best chance was when Ryen Ortiz went one-on-one with High Point’s goalkeeper at the 33-minute mark. Despite the Spartans having four shots to the Panthers’ one shot and both teams had three corners each, the half ended tied, 0-0.
UNCG tried to push forward in the second half, but High Point’s backline came full force driving the ball to its attacking third. The match’s intensity grew and the Panthers regained possession after getting called for being offsides in the 78th minute. High Point’s Gianna Simon crossed the ball to Bri Davis at the top of the 18th and Davis struck the ball with her left foot to break the tie, 1-0 at 77:52. UNCG had five of its nine shots in the remaining 12 minutes, unable to connect.
BY THE NUMBERS
UNCG outshot High Point 13-5.
The Spartans had three corner kicks to the Panthers three.
