WP:Jared Johnson(1-0)/LP:Cy Nielson(4-4)
Braves- 6-7-2 Hoppers-5-5-0
Greensboro Grasshoppers(63-54/27-26)
Rome Braves(58-62)
On another side of the coin, before we get deeper into the Hoppers today, last night up in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the Altoona Curve drew 10,164 fans for the Double A baseball debut of top pitching prospect Paul Skenes…Not really the outing that Skenes or the Pittsburgh Pirates were hoping for, as the right-hander recorded just two outs (both strikeouts), allowing four earned runs on three hits and two walks on 33 pitches before being pulled….But, there will be plenty of other chances for this prospect to prove his mettle…
Now back to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday afternoon in Rome Georgia…It was Luke Brown leading the local charges, as Brown went 3-4, with a two-run home run, and he had three RBI…The Hoppers as a whole, stuck on right at just five hits today, and like we were saying, Luke Brown was the only real total spark at the plate….
Tres Gonzalez went 1-4, while Shawn Ross was 1-4, and you have your five Greensboro Grasshoppers hits accounted for right there…Termarr Johnson 0-3/BB/Run, Jack Brannigan 0-2/2 BB’s/Run/SB, Josiah Sightler 0-4/Run/RBI were your other Hoppers who contributed on the offense…Had the five runs, and stayed even with the Bravos most of the way, with the game tied at 3-3 after four innings, then the Braves moved on top 4-3, after five, then both clubs posted two runs in the eighth, and that run by Rome in the fifth inning, it was enough to propel the Braves to the victory…
Drake Baldwin with his 14th HR of the season today for the Rome Braves, and the Braves lock down the win, on Evan Workinger’s two-run double, in the bottom of the eighth inning…
Hopper pitching gave up the six Brave runs, on seven Brave hits, but overall, the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ pitching staff struck out 15 Brave batters on Sunday afternoon in Rome….The Hoppers used five pitchers, and Cy Nielson got stuck with the Blown Save and the Loss…Greensboro starter Josh Loeschorn went three innings and struck out six Brave batters…Jaycob Deese comes on and works two innings and strikes out three more Bravos…Then Jack Carey, from Atlanta, Georgia, goes two innings and sends down four Braves, by way of the K…Cy Nielson and Valentin Linares with just one strikeout each to add to teh Greensboro total of 15 K’s for the day, and the Hoppers’ pitchers only walked two Rome batters on Sunday….Greensboro starter Loeschorn went three innings, giving up the three runs on four hits, with his 1 BB/6 K’s, and he gave up the one HR, to the Braves’ Drake Baldwin….
The Rome Braves claim the Six-Game Series with the Hoppers, 4-2…..
