Warm day, but I missed yesterday’s shooting due to our Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball game last night…Wanted to get it done today and did….And while I was doing my basketball workouts today at Forest Valley Court, a young man came by the court, and he was riding down the street in a motorized wheelchair…
He drove by the basketball court one time in his motorized wheelchair, then when he came back by for a second time, he stopped, and that is when I went over and began talking to the young man…
He is 20 years old, and his name is JJ Hodge…He is paralyzed from what looks to be the neck down, and he is in that wheelchair, and hopes one day, he can be up and moving again…
JJ and some friends had been drinking and he told me they were drunk, and that he was car surfing and he fell off the car as it was traveling at a fair rate of speed and he hit the pavement, and when he landed, from that night on, he has been paralyzed…He said the incident took place about four years ago….
I remember seeing this in the news(internet), and on the TV news, and JJ remains paralyzed to this day, and he takes full resonsibilty for his actions…The car surfing was a big thing at that time, but this day and time is all about the car tire burnouts….
JJ Hodge was paralyzed, but he is a very keen and smart young man, and he loves baseball…He and his dad are big Greensboro Grasshoppers fans…JJ remembers Grimsley High School baseball coach Jason Simmons, from JJ’s days at Grimsley HS…He also remembers being in Coach Darryl Brown’s weight training class…Those days are long gone now, but if JJ had it to over again, I think you would have seen him on the field, and playing baseball for the Grimsley Whirlies…
Hodge and I talked for quite a while, and he told me his two his all-time favorite baseball players are Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera…JJ Hodge joining our team, and hooking up with us today, at the Forest Valley Outdoor Basketball Court…
You see somebody riding down the street in a motorized wheelchair and you can quickly become very thankful that you can be out there on a real hot day, just able to shoot the basketball…
You just Never Know What Someboday Is Going Thorough……
JJ Hodge and all of the rest of us have to be Overcomers…Overcomers….
Also saw Josh Wiggins today at the Forest Valley Court…Josh is senior on the men’s basketball team at Fayetteville State University, his older brother Aaron Wiggins is with the Oklahoma City/OKC Thunder of the NBA, and Josh’s younger brother Zaach Wiggins, just enrolled at Wesleyan Christian Academy last week, leaving Grimsley HS and the Grimsley Whirlies…
I was just telling JJ Hodge today, that I felt like Zaach was headed somewhere, I just didn’t know where, but I knew was on the way….And now I know my premonition was correct…
